I'm in the process of fixing my tail gate, I had some deep scratches and dents that I caused from hauling scrap metal. I managed to get the dents out best I could. I sanded down to the bare metal and applied some bondo to smooth out the rest. I then sanded the bondo down with 220 and then 320. I have ordered paint and clear coat from (paintscratch.com) along with 600 and 1000 grit paper and rubbing compound. The areas are primarily on the drives sided of the tail gate. How do I best blend the paint? Should I wetsand the whole tail gate and respray? Am I doing things in the correct order?

I will also be working on fixing some dents on the bed rail but that is for another time.

Is the damage on the bed-facing side or outside of the tailgate? How much of the tailgate is damaged -- half, a quarter? Blending paint is a crap shoot, but with a color like pewter a variation in the shade will be less visible than with darker ones, especially if it's on the bed-facing side of the tailgate.

The scratches are on the outside. I've got a linex bedliner.

painting metallic your 1 st time will be a good test as to your ability. i would only paint the damaged area then lightly dust or blend it out on the rest of the tail gate to make it match. rembmer base coat does NOT have to be shiny just not dry & ruff. the clear coat will make it shine. sand the entire tail gate with the 1000 grit so the clear sticks. try not to sand through the factory clearcoat where you are blending the color.use wax & grease remover befor you start then dont touch it with your fingers cause the oil in your skin will cause problems pm me if you have any questions.ASE cert. in paint & body. good luck:D
