ok heres the deal. i work at my fathers environmental company and he has a bunch of company trucks one being a 95 chevy rack truck with a 6.5 turbo in it..no one thought the thing was worth a crap . One of my fathers other trucks is a 2000 powerstroke 7.3 that one guy uses as his "company truck" I keep gettin him all amped up telling him that the 6.5 is the best truck out there and he just keeps scoffing the chevy out. What can i do to make this 6.5 come to life, i allready got a remote pmd and heat sink and a 2.5 mandrel crossover pipe for it and gutted the kitty on it. I think this thing needs a chip to make it come to life. He allready knows the stupid powerjoke is like a fart in a hurricane to my own duramax, but now i gotta make my fathers old 6.5 out perform his truck since he keeps scoffing it out.

Get a new down pipe. Also a turbo master and will notice a big differance. Do those first. Also look into gauges if you do many mods..

Freeing up the exhaust w/ a 4" exhaust (Jardine, Warpspeed, etc...) - or a hacksaw - helps.

Heath chip  really helps! I'm sure a Kennedy chip owner can say the same for thiers.

Go to kennedy's site and in the tech section read about opening up the air filter box.

Also find out if it is an F engine or S engine. If it is and S engine you really need to gut the intake and get that chip so you'll be getting some fuel.

Elimination of the vacuum pot for the wastegate control and installation of a Heath Turbomaster or similar home brew spring wastegate control goes hand in hand with the chip, but you need a boost gauge to keep an eye on it.

Basically: with a chip, die grinder (for intake and airbox), a battery J-bolt spring and nut & bracket (wastegate control), and a hacksaw to cut off the muffler... you can really wake it up!

Yeah, Heath EPROM, Turbo Master, exhaust. First two, alone, will wake it up.

Don't know "everything" done to my truck because I bought it this past January, but I have out performed a couple stock 7.3s and a stock 24v cummins...

And I didn't take a hacksaw to my exhaust either, the exhaust kind of well.... snapped off while going home one night (200 mile drive). Since then, open down pipe :D

DJ take a look at this from FAQ sticky http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1078

with just bolt on stuff your Dad with a 6.5 will have ability to keep up with or outpace stock anything on the early market including your LB7 when it was in stock trim. Mine will drag 18K load if need be

thanks guys, my father really doesnt care about this truck, its just the only chevy he has in his fleet :) He drives an 07 cummins that i hooked him up with a bully dog tripple when i upgraded to PPE. I know this 6.5 has potential and i have done some stuff to it, but i want to embarass the guys that think the company powerstroke is better than anything out there

Just remember that some folks only see brand name and loyality to it. I saw last week someone talking about a come-apart-cummins, and some other slander of a duramax... this guy only saw Ford, Ford, Ford. I don't think he saw the finer points of a sick-liter (6.0L). Anywho, all that to say, he still might not relinquish his thoughts on the truck, but may gain a little more respect for it.

Build power responsibly. Gauges would be a good step in the right direction since we don't have the "fudge factor" as some of the other engines do. A top to bottom on diagnostic checklist to make sure you are already performing well, then FAQ's to learn the rest of the stuff you need to know will help. You don't want to be havin' your hat in hand should it grenade on you because of wantin' to put them to shame. The 6.5 has it's place in life. It's just a matter of gettin' to the top shelf without breaking anything ;)

A chip will put some jump up in it's step, how far you want to take it, how many miles on it now, is it a SWR or a dually, what gears are in it.

Dioes it currently have any overriding ailments, heavy black smoke on acceleration for instance, or weak lift pump delivery, as Kevin pointed out run through the dignostic list report back with results to give us a core baseline of what we are dealing with for future power upgradeability.

Look at the VIN 8th digit is it S or F.
