Is that what the Attitude is reading, or the factory temp guage?
Factory guage on mine doesn't appear too accurate, compared to the Edge, although I read some people on here think the Edge is not an accurate reading either.
At what temp is the fan kicking in? Maybe the fan clutch is out in the 04 and not kicking in when it needs to. My '02, the fan kicks in at about 198-203 on the Edge and pulls it back to the low 190's pretty quick.

Hi Manny,

Please don't flame me for asking. You seem like you know quite a bit about truck already. Since your truck is an 04, are you sure its not an LLY?

on my 04 it is an early 04 so its an lb7, and i did have a problem with the gauges at firts both the engine temp and the trans temp pegged out and the truck was running fine so i knew it was not over heating, then i replaced the cluster now it seems pretty accurate and it also reads the same as the gauges on the edge, i replaced the injectors when i got the truck since its an 04 i did it myself, job went pretty good but i dont know if it was getting hot before i got the truck, it seems to me my 02 runs a little less boost then the 04 about 21 max on 02 and the 04 hits 25 on hills and thats the only time it gets warm otherwise truck runs great it has 125k on it and my 02 only has 41k but i dont see how the milage would make a differance, not at 125k thats nothing, ohh yeh and also my egt's get hotter on 04 on hills i dont know if its because boost is higher or what, i also put a new clutch fan in and it didnt make a differance i dont know why but for some reason niether one of the trucks have a loud fan i cant ever hear them kick on not even on the 02 and ive tried to get that hot on hills with it punched and higher program setting and it just wont go passed about 208, my brother in laws both have chevy's and their fans dont het loud either but my father in law has a GMC and his you can here kick in, i was also wondering if the 04's have less coolant than the early ones since the hoods got smaller, i dont know i know they had cooling problems with the lly and im thinking this truck might have the same problems but its just not linked to the since its an lb7, i dont know any help would be appreciated thanks Manny

Manny, I have a 04 and never had it run hot, it stays at about 205-210 degrees, You mentioned you pulled the rad and intercooler out and flushed them, my next question is does oyur tranny temp go up also? If it does you may be passing the heat load to the raditator, I never liked the idea of something passing heat onto another device, it should be seperate, anyway I think oyu also may have a thermostat issue....try changing it out, if it is stuck open you are moving way too much water and the raditator can not cool it, on the other hand if the stat is partically closed you are not moving enough coolant....either way change it and see if it helps.

Duramax trucks getting hot began with the LB7 with EGR. The non-EGR LB7 trucks seem immune, but the EGR ones get warm, not quite like the LLY, but much warmer than the other LB7's. Is this an EGR equipped truck?

How can I tell if its an egr?

can you block off the egr and will it make a differance? or will the egr trucks do it
