Before you change the lift pump ,the dealer told me they are having problems with the connection on the injector pump.It is the connection on the injector pump,(WHERE THEY CHUCK FOR PRESSURE)unscrew look to see if diesel shows up,if yes prime pump you will see bubbles.Cost around
$30.It is the screw valve inside .He said a lot of people change the primer pump for nothing...

This is good to know, sounds like something I have to check asap....having a loss of prime condition, etc etc.
