Hello to all, this is my second post and a newb so be kind. I was in a shop today asking about the different setups for the dmax. This board is so informative, I cannot say enough about you all and the advice you provide. Sorry, I digress. Anyway, when talking about the edge products and exhaust, he told me that the exhaust only has to be from the cat back, as there is a sensor if front that will cause havoc, my term, on the computer and not let the truck run correctly. I have not seen this commented on this board as of yet and was wondering if anyone else has heard this. BTW, this was using a magnaflow, I believe he said. And while I have your attention, any recommendations on exhaust are greatly appreciated. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Pete,

Treu and not true at the same time. The exhaust if you remove the cat will on some trucks set a SES light that is caused by lower back pressure that the computer is expecting to see thru the EGR system. Doesn't hurt anything except it might cause the SES bulb to burn out too soon!!!

Doing a cat back will keep it off, but you lose a small amount of EGT drop and HP. So you have to make the call there. The guys here have devised an EGR block off plate to fool the EGR and keep the light off, clever guys I say!

Anyway we have sold literally 100's of LLY systems and no one has had any truck driveability problems except the stuipid light. We have systems in aluminized, T-409 and T-304 stainless as well as duals if you like that idea of that. Here is a review done on this site of the exhaust:

Call us if we can help you with any questions etc.

Pete,
I have installed many exhaust systems on 05 6.6'S and in some cases the SES lamp will come on but in most cases it does not. I have had a few come on and after three days of driving the lamp will go out once the systems adjusts to the new higher flows. If you are upgrading to a high flow exhaust you should also install a high flow air intake system. The best air intake system is AFE using pro guard 7 only! If you leave the cat you will have a great deal of backpressure, loss of power and higher exhaust temps.

How tough is it to remove the downpipe v-clamp in order to make the kitty go bye-bye? Also, does the ECM do anything to compensate for the lower backpressure besides throw the code?

You could put on a EGR defeat circuit to kill the EGR codes and shut off the darn light.

It seems weird that he is talking about a sensor in the first place. . . Was he talking about an O2 sensor? There aren't any on our trucks, so you can replace the cat. If you get the SES light, then get a Finger Stick. . . after a few key cycles, the SES light will go away and you'll be all set. . .
