I GOT A QUCK QUESTION FOR YOU GUYS IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET THE SOUND OF THE TURBO RELEASING AIR LIKE ONE OF THE JAP CARS W/ THE TURBOS IN THEM

A blow off valve can be added, but the engines are enough louder than the japs that you, or someone next to you, probably wouldn't hear the release of air. If you want the sound though, you can get a blow off valve activated by completely release of the throttle quickly, which will dump all boost.

Well U see...Correct me if i am wrong but a diesel engine is fluted..It has no throttle butter(throttle body...u know the thing on a gas engine that opens by a cable when u hit the gas) fly to allow air in..The engine takes in as much air as it needs so that butter fly is not needed..So when you let off the throttle on a Gas engine the air is blocked and causes pressure in the intake by the closed butterfly and all that pressure is built up so hence the need for a blow off valve..

On the oil burner engine since there is no throttle butterfly the air isn't built up in the intake so there is no pressure to active the blow off valves..

And please don't tell me a diesel engine has a throttle butteryfly because i have yet to see one on my moms Powerstroke or my Duramax...Plus the duramax uses wires to operate the throttle..no cable in site...

Pro400exc is correct, though a blow off valve can 'work' on our engines due to the boost we build. However, enough boost is not built to "hiss" unless you are actually accelerating, which defeats the purpose I assume you are after (which is to pull up to a light and rev the engine and hear the hiss).

I have an electornically controled blow off valve on my Duramax (to prevent back pressure under oh-sh*t releases of the throttle under full acceleration) which is not activated by pressure. It is closed no matter what unless a TPS switch senses the throttle is released X amount in X amount of milliseconds. Works really well for it's purpose, but I almost never hear it. In fact, I was unsure that it was working as I never could hear it, but the indicator light indicated it was working. Finally, on one of my recent quarter mile passes when I let off the throttle at the end of the quarter mile I heard a hiss and the first time I was unsure of what it was. I later remembered it was the bov releasing the pressure. Since than I've heard it work on a dyno as well.

For your purpose though of just making the sound, I don't think it's possible due to the way diesel engines work.

I know BD makes a blow off valve for Dodges, and I'm pretty sure they make one for the Duramax too. I'm not sure if you guys have problems barking the turbo, but i could probably use one.;)

Since you're just posing here, I've seen a device that makes an electronic artifical blow off sound. Not sure where to find it but its out there.

Yes, bd makes them for all three trucks. Not many out there though due to price. John

chad - does that keep you from barking your turbo?

It helps. It doesn't prevent it entirely though due to having to have it set so it doesn't blow off every time the throttle position changes. I bark the turbo very little now compared to before the blow off valve though, and I have yet to have a "false" blow off. I've got the BD setup. It's a Garrett BOV with BD electronics.
