Installed the 5 inch exaust from DPPI last night on my LLY. Turbo back, muffler delete, the install was a piece of cake, everything went well. The sound was a definite improvement, but suprizingly was not as loud as I imagined it to be. I didnt take it out on the highway, just tooled around town a bit and so far Im impressed. Seeing a big lifted crewcab duramax with head turning exaust always puts a smile on your face. It was too dark last night to take pics, but this weekend Ill get you guys some. Thats some massive pipe under there.

The 5" does look impressive. Is the tip 5" or 6"?

When I ordered it the guy told me tip would be a 6 in but when it arrived it was actually a 5 incher, which is fine, I think when you get that big your kind of limited.

If possible to screen out "placebo" effect, do you think there is any performance change?

If you have a pic, could you snap a pic of the clearance to the spare tire? I use a 315 and wonder if the exhaust would fit.

Is there really a w**ker county? LOL

Actually I just dropped the spare last night because Im running 315s with an RCD so the factory spare is just dead weight, it wouldnt fit on the front if I wanted it to. But I will take some good pics for ya.

As far as w**ker County goes, thats just what I consider these little Southwest Kansas cowtowns to being.

I have a 315 H2 spare now, in the spare location, about 1" clearance to the pipe. Are you thinking that is out of the question with the exhaust you got?Edited by: masterp2

How far does the 5" go where it starts from? Does it start at the downpipe and go all the way? Is it as loud as a straight piped cummins?

what material is the 5" i want a 304 5" tailpipe that'll fit my mbrp
exhaust, the 409 just doesnt look nice anymore and the 5" tip looks
goofy where it ends (makes the 4" looks small)

masterp2, i will check and see about the spare,

Z-71 it starts at the downpipe, I will have to check again, but I think the downpipe is 4''. No its not as loud as a cummins, but it is a big improvement.

The 5" systems are alumiunized. John

Maybe somebody will eventually come out witha T-304 5" system sometime. My friend has aluminized and I don't think anything is wrong, It's just not as corrosion resistant is it?

Ok heres some quick shots, masterp2, there is not enough room for a 315 spare with this setup.

If you don't mind me asking what part numbers and what did you pay for it? Did they credit you for no muffler and then charge you for the delete pipe? Thanks
Also is it DPPI's stuff or MBRP?

Does the 5" go all the way up to the downpipe in the picture there? Was it hard to install?

Z71Griz... I think that he posted all that in the first part of the thread...The exhaust goes to the flange and then back from there. :)

9W3,

That thing looks awesome. I was looking at my 4" (exhaust, get your minds out of the gutter) the other day thinking "Man, that kind of looks small. . . " Oh, god, when will it end? . . . . ):h

I don't think it will ever end... Some one will come up with something else that everyone has to have sooner or later...

The downpipe is 4 in and all the rest is 5. The install was really easy, it was my first exaust job, taking the old stuff out and putting everything on took me about three hours. Will it ever end? Well thats the exact reason I went with the biggist I could get, I didnt want to regret it later. It would of been nice to have it in stainless, but no biggie for me.

Looks great, for a first timer looks like you did a great job. Hey I have a guy in Spain that needs that cat you removed if you want to get rid of it let me know.

The system is available in both muffler and muffler less, cost is based on what you select, the site doesn't allow us to post prices so just call us and we will be glad to help you. Our site www.dieselperformanceparts.com (http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com) does list the prices for the mufflered system by the way. The system is not an MBRP product, it is by a company that makes them for us.

nice pics, now what do you do for a spare?

9W3-HD
11-22-2004, 02:06 PM
Well I still need to get one. I bought the truck in June, and well right now it has 2700 miles on it, I dont drive it much, usually just on the weekends, other than that it makes my garage look good, so having a spare hadn't been on my first priority list.

So have u had any EGR codes go off from not having a cat? Or did u do something so it would'nt trip a code?

It is possible to install a Dodge spare around 5" exhaust ;)

Another advantage :ro)

The only 6" tip I ever saw available in SS is a 4-6. I had to get mine custom cut buy the guy that sold it to me. He psama cut it at the transistion so it would slide on a 5" pipe. I then welded it in place.

Is the 4-5" Kennedy exhaust stainless or aluminized?

HVACDIESEL

I would to have a stainless 5" exhaust with no tip involved

Aluminized holds up VERY well with diesels. 409SS looks like crap in short order though. The rusty pipes are from a 2004 LB7. The shiny one is from I believe a 2003. I've had the aluminized ones sitting there for quite some time now. The rusty 400 grade SS pipe had 14k on it and was removed a couple of weeks ago...

I have a 4" system on my LB7 cc drw but the system does not turn into 4" at the down pipe, but after it makes the 90 degree bend it turns into 4" at the side of the tranny.Does this make a difference since the down pipe does not have a 4" flange on it anyway. The pipe coming out of the down pipe is 3.5".

Diesel Tech

If you look at the exit of the Turbo down pipe it is limited to about 3" at the V-band clamp. So your 3.5" is just fine.
