In my 2004 Sierra I had the factory radio removed for a few days in order to get it repaired (light went out). While the radio was removed I noticed my DIC at the bottom of the cluster did not work for part of the time. I am pretty sure that it did work for part of the time the radio was removed, however, and it began working again before I got the radio reinstalled. But it went out for a little while and then just reappeared. I had never (to my knowledge) ever had it go out prior to this.
When I went to get my radio reinstalled I mentioned to the service manager about the DIC not working. He said it was not related to the radio being out of the truck and that the cluster was probably going out. He said he had seen it occur in several trucks and he wanted me to leave my truck so he could replace the entire instrument cluster. I was going to have to leave the truck but did not have time. Since that time I have not noticed the DIC going out anymore.
Before I go to the trouble of having my cluster replaced I just wanted to ask if anyone knew for certain whether having the radio out of the truck could have been what caused the DIC not to work?
