I have an 03 chevy d/a have asked a few questions about my injectors that dmaxallitech has answered... the problem is I have 4 injectors over +6 at idle motor sounds like total sh#t.....2 of the injectors are about +12 the other 2 are around +7...anyhow i took it to 2 different dealers and spoke with the area service rep for gm and they all say they cant fix it till it breaks. With winter approaching and plans of ski trips to colorado i really would like to get it fixed before i or worse yet my wife and son and I are in the middle of bfe and the truck leaves us stranded......I would be so flippin mad http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. They had there tech 2's hooked up and can clearly see that there is a problem with the balance rates. Gm told them to take glow plugs out, check torque converter bolts, and unhook some ign relay, after all that was done they said thats it, no futher till it breaks or throws a codehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif Edited by: hdd-max

Frustrating, isn't it? I had my old 6.0 gasser strand me while on a trip in southern Utah. Even though it went into the dealer on a wrecker, they refused to do anything with it since no codes were thrown!

So, I left the dealership and consequently broke down on my way home. This time the tranny completely destroyed itself. It was a huge fiasco, but it was a learning experience.

Sorry to hear about your similar luck. Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure what else you can do about it.

Maybe you could leave your fuel filter off for a while to speed up the inevitable?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

How do you get those numbers on the injectors?

hdd-max,

I think the only thing you can do is to refer to GM's own documentation.

Do a search on Balance rates and you will find the GM documentation concerning the problem--clearly the injectors with those numbers are going to fail.

Not sure if you can take the documentation to a lawyer and have him write them a letter stating they are going against GM's own troubleshooting guide to the Techs and that would give you grounds to seek damages if the truck leaves you stranded.

Sometimes a threat of a lawyer or letter from one can really help.

I have two injectors that are at -5 at idle drive---so I am also worried about what to do when/if they go up?? But the truck runs great/quiet and excellent mpg.

Please let us know how this turns out.

Good luck.

I would use their own paper work against them. They have set standards where they are suppose to wait on them to go and then when they are suppose to work on them. I think you are beyond both of those standards at this point. Find an attorney who will help you... Good luck..

If you were here I would have already replaced them. The problem is that the TSB to replace all 8 says only to replace the complete set if they have excessive return (hard/no start) or cracked bodies (diesel in crankcase/hard/no start). Some dealers are under close scrutiny from GM to keed their warranty dollars per R.O. down, which prevents them from just doing all 8. If they go too high on dollars-per-R.O. they can lose some valuable priveleges from GM, so it is a balancing act. But, diagnostics also say that EACH injector with balance rates exceeding +-6 in drive need to be addressed. High balance rates aren't always a sign of bad injectors, as an out of balance condition coulsd also cause them to be high, as could compression differeces. But yes, 99% of them are injectors themselves. I have heard from a little birdy that a couple gallons of diesel poured through the oil filler neck and a tow-in will get the job done...

HD,

Didn't you say that your truck has become very hard to start and there is a distinct diesel smell on the dipstick? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

I would try another dealer. Call around. If you have to go 100 miles to get it done, and done right, it might be worth it.
