I'm looking to pick up a code reader. I think it would have saved me a bunch of time last weekend.

Which code reader do you own?

Which do you recommend?

I would like to read the code AND be able to reset the code.

Any other functions on your reader that you like?
Any other functions on readers you've seen that you think would be nice?

How much should I spend?

Thanks!

I would say bite the bullet and look into EFI Live. Can read and reset codes, along with ditching your edge and programming the truck yourself!

I have a Snap-On "Scan Check" works great, has all the codes stored in it for information so you dont have to reference another publication.

I have the Equus 3100 Innova Diagnostic Code Reader. Bought it last year at Wal*Mart for around $92. It will read AND clear codes.

http://www.iequus.com/product_info.php?product_id=3100&category_id=1_10_7

So far I have only used it to read codes on my son's Trailblazer and the other son's Toyota Solara when they got a CEL. Worked OK on those two vehicles.

I've only checked it out to make sure that it works on my LBZ and the wife's Highlander, but haven't needed to pull codes from these two yet. (Know on wood ! :))

So far it seems to work well.

I hope to eventually get EFILive.

I have a scangauge II and I like it. I can leave it connected and read / clear on the fly. It has many additional display functions so I can monitor things like intake air temperature on my little car as I modify the aftermarket intake. It does not contain the definitions for the codes however, but Google will handle that in short order.
I had a bad motor mount on a car, that was allowing a rattle that would trigger the knock sensor and put the car in limp mode, barely able to get out of it's own way. Having the ability to see the code and clear it, on the fly, immediately restored power. It also helps with troubleshooting to read a code as soon as the CEL comes on.

I have the Snap On MT2500 with up to date modules. Works with the Body Control, Engine Control, Antilock brakes, transmission, etc... Works great not only for reading and clearing codes but it also contains the ability to assist with troubleshooting by turning on and off components and knows valid values for each component.

It also contains up to date TSB information for all vehicles.

And the best is it does this for all my vehicles, not have to buy one for this vehicle, that vehicle, and that vehicle.

That Snap On one is more than I need $$$$

I'm thinking something around $100 that can do the job for me.

I also have one from MAC it cost me $30.00 on sale. Its normally $50.00 I think? Its model is: "ET50" It doesnt store the codes in the machine, it comes with a book with all of the codes.

I've got an Actron something or other from Wal-Mart. $89 on sale. It works, comes with a cd identifying most codes. I have also ordered a Scangauge II which will do the same thing with more features for a few more $$.

The Scangauge II looks cool. I'm not sure I would display anything more than what I'm also displaying with the Edge / Attitude.

I can live with that price though.

Almost time to order one!

I bought one, good thing about it it verifies other things on cluster...I knew my Water Temp showed hi...210, Scangauge showed 193, Dealer is now replacing the cluster.

For me I use my EFI Live. Works mint, actually the other day I used it on a friends saturn. And of course you can tune also. Notice you already have the edge. I've got both my truck running EFI Live.

About ready to make the move on something.

How much is EFI Live anyways?

Any reason to get it since I already have the Edge? I don't want to remove the Edge. I like the gauges, etc. So, any other reasons? How much?

I'm leaning towards the Actron CP9175 right now.

I am in the same boat and have been looking for a new scanner. I have a Actron 9135 which is a basic OBD2 reader and I can say they make a nice scanner. But I now need something that will capture/display live data and I am leaning towards the Equus Innova 3130 or 3140 at around $165. Allows you capture the live data and print it using a PC. The CP 9175 looks decent but I would go for the CP 9180 that will display live data. It's not that much more ($125 on eBay).

Anybody out their happy with their Equus Innova 3130 or 3140?

Bob

The EFI Live starts at $400 and goes up from there. That's a little more than I want to spend and it doesn't do me as much good on an old 6.5 as it does on a new Duramax since it's big feature is the ability to flash the prom

I've got the Innova 3110 which works great for what I need, and it is also alot more portable than the TechII.

I would get the 3140 now, but they didn't have it on the market yet:(

Another vote for the Equus Innova, picked up a brand new one off fleabay for cheap. The one I have, 3100 I think, can clear and store codes, comes with software for your PC where you can download the info it reads and keep it. Originally bought it for a Furd product that I kept having problems with the CEL coming on. Worked fine for me and paid for itself the second time I had to use it. The 3130 & 3140 were not yet available when I got mine, otherwise I would have gone with one of those.

''obd-2 . com'' for a laptop works great and gets enhanced codes and balance rates too
