I've read conflicting info on this site about changing the internal filter on my Allison. Some say only at overhaul and others say they've changed theirs and they were gunked up, thus they should be changed regularly. My 05 LLY has 29K on it and I've replaced the spin on three times so far. I'm wanting to change the fluid now. Should I replace the internal filter or not?

all you need to do is a spin on filter every 20 ~ 25,000 mile , the filter in my truck was clean at 34,000 when I changed it.... waste of time and $48.00 in my opinion.

If it was my truck it would've been changed 4000 miles ago.
Needed? probably not! But I changed that probably to not!

I changed the internal filter when I decided to go with transynd. If you are going the change the fluid were you going to drop the pan? If so might as well change the filter too.

if you cange the fluid might as well do it, but it is stated that only nec in an overhaul.

I would not hesitate to change it.

Pointless to waste your time or money. I build these and most any other automatic and unless there is a failure of the transmission changing the filter/screen is again pointless. JMHO

It's what, $18 at the most? Change it and install a filter loc while you're at it.
