Have 2002 2500hd with what I think is the 105amp alternator. I noticed the 2005 now have 145amp as standard and 160amp as optional.
I have a CB amp that is pulling more than I like and thinking of upgrading the alternator. I read that Delco has a 200amp for the Escalade that will bolt right in. First is that true? What are my options here. Will I have wiring size issues? I would rather upgrade the alternator than add a second one.

you can swap it out with a 145 alt. A direct replacement. I will give you core credit on your 105 amp towards the 145

Can I go larger on the alternator? Was thinking of keeping the 105 as a spare since my 96 Tahoe had 3 alternators before hitting 100,000 miles. But if these alternators on the 2500hd are more reliable, I won't necessarily do that. Post or PM me on pricing.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

You can look in the glove box and find one of these RPO codes:
K68, 105 Amp
KG3, 145 Amp

Eric,
In all of your training or books, was the total current draw of the truck in typical or worst case conditions given? If not, do you have a good idea of what the hotel loads all add up to be?
It just seems that the OEM 105 is just a tad small considering FICM, IAH, Glow plugs, ECM, BCM, Bose stereo, etc.

I did the upgrade on my 01- the 145 is a direct bolt in, don't forget a longer belt is required. My truck is a plow truck in the winter, 12 strobe heads, radio, defrost, lights, and the plow- the 105 worked fine for 3 years then died, aslong as a new one was required I upgraded, the extra amps are nice when pulling the fifth wheel trailer and the fridge is on- always cold beverages :D

The belts are only different on the 01's for the differant amp alts.
FWIW, I still have the single 105 on mine and plow with it, albiet not commercial.
It seems to do me well, but for the sake of having it, I am going to add a second alt..
