: Aux Fuel Tank
Dwight45 09-07-2007, 02:35 PM I need some recomendations for an aux fuel tank. I don't want to put one in the bed. I nearly ran out of fuel on I-70 heading for Limon and I don't want that to happen again. Took 33.7 gallons, book says 34 gallon tank! 50 to 60 gallons total would be nice. What are you guys using?
Thanks
Bubba800 09-07-2007, 02:50 PM Check out PPE web site, they have a fuel tank replacement that is around 50 gal. It says that it uses all the same hardware and sending units. Worth a shot
Fuelman 09-07-2007, 02:56 PM Transfer Flow makes a replacement tank for long bed trucks that is 56 gal.
ar077 09-08-2007, 08:04 AM If you can make it down to Corona, CA (near Riverside) I recommend having an Aerotank installed (Google "aerotanks" for info -- since they're a competitor to one of the forum sponsors I can't give you the URL). Their long bed replacement tank is 64 gallons and it doesn't hang down below the frame rail, unlike the others. My short bed tank is rated at 48 gallons but when the Fuel Low light comes on it takes just under 50 gallons when I fill it to the neck (it's even available with a skid plate). However, you must make the journey to have it installed.

They make larger replacement fuel tanks... HD too.
TurboShane 09-08-2007, 09:07 AM The cheapest solution is to carry a couple of fuel cans in the back and pour them in ass needed. Total cost less than 20 bucks.

Thanks. Just did and it looks like a very complete replacement/upgrade. I hadn't heard about the PPE tank before now. Tried searching and really didn't find any mention of PPE fuel tank experiences. Anyone install this tank? Comments? TIA!
addictiveracing 09-08-2007, 11:07 AM I have a titan fuel tank and love it.
70 gsconvt 09-09-2007, 07:34 AM I just always have a 5 gallon can of diesel in the bed for just such an emergency.
Diesel Newby 09-09-2007, 11:37 AM nice links. Where is the PPE website?

Dwight45 09-11-2007, 04:36 PM Wow! $1000 for a tank! Guess I'll just do like one of you said: Use two 5 gallon cans in the bed of the truck. Too much money for me!
Thanks for all of the replies.

Ha Ha! You're kidding, right? (can't always be too sure). Apart from taking all the fun out of driving your truck, towing that much weight (~4400 lbs of fuel plus the weight of the trailer) would lower your fuel economy, thus defeating your purpose.
Looks like a great trailer to have available and full in case there's ever a breakdown in the social order.

It gets delivered to the farm and we have 3- 500 gallon tanks. Only one is on wheels. It is all non-taxed dyed diesel. When we got them filled last time in the fall dyed diesel was $2.18 a gallon. So a little over $3000 dollars.

Yep, I'm kidding we are harvesting corn right now so we have tank on wheels because the combine holds 125 gallons, the 4240 on the auger to the bin holds around 30 and the 8100 tractor on the grain cart holds 135 gallons. My transfer tank only holds 100. 100 gallons don't go that far anymore. It gunna get even worse when we start to combine beans... 2 combines running at once:bawl:
