How big of a pipe is to big for the 6.5? I would think 3in would be about right. Ive seen a ford with 6in and I think thats to big. I would think to big and the exhaust and heat wouldnt flow out, just sit there. So whats the best size for the 6.5??????

4" is perfect for this motor.

I'd have to agree, 4" is the way to go. Putting mine on tomorrow hopefully...

Just sit there? I wouldthink that if you kept the engine running, sooner or later, the stuff would have to start getting forced out the end by the new exhaust coming in the top...

Just how big are we talking here? :D

I run 4" and am very happy with it. 5" systems look cool, but fitting that kind of pipe under my truck would be a bit hard. The 4" system fit pretty snug. Going to 5" wouldn't gain you any performance, as the 4" system flows plenty well.

I have 4" that exits before the rear wheel, its loud as hell, but my egt's have been a bit lower than when it came out the back with the 4", although it seems that I have lost a little bit of low end, but then again it could just be that its so much louder that I think its revving more with less output....

If it trags on the ground when you go over speed bumps its to big :)

Banks did testing and found a size that was too large. They could tell you for sure, but I was thinking 5-6" range was where they began to lose power on the 6.5

I messed up a 3hp briggs and stratton with a big exhaust pipe. I put a 1.25 stack on it, looked awesome and would blow smoke rings but the engine quits now after about 5 min, I think I smoked a exhaust valve.

but that needs a certain ammount of back pressure to keep the vehicle running

Thats what I was wondering about the 6.5, I see guys with 8" exhaust and I think thats got to be bad on it. I wouldnt go bigger then 4 inch.

diesel's are basically big pumps, free flow in free flow out. 8 inch's is just for looks on stacks. 5 inch wont hurt anything but is useless on a 6.5

Exhaust is about velocity. When you punch it do you want the fumes to just linger there or do you want them to shoot out of there like a rocket.

Keep in mind the outlet on the turbo is only about 2.5 inches or so and that's where the restriction is. One inch bigger should be sufficent.

I've had a 3" exhaust which was better over stock, I've also had a 4" which is a huge difference and now I have 4" out the side which I can tell a bit of difference....

the turbo creates the back pressure for the motor, thats why it can be as big as you want afterwards
