I am a powerstroke owner/fan and i read up quite a bit about how much you guys crank up the power on the dmax and i am kinda curious as to how well the drivetrain and the engine hold up to that kind of abuse. Also, what kind of boost pressure are you getting and are you doing any mods to or replacing the turbo?

thanks, luke

No mass production replacement turbos yet...some out there that have done their own r &d. The engine and tranny hold up just fine when properly upgraded and looked after.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

R&D

Replace when Destroyed

Ripoff when Disintegrated.

Regrettably Dead

Turbos are quite durable, motor is ok, EGT's make ceramics kiln look like Antarctica in the winter.

Turn up the boost? (Mr Scott Voice) "She's Flyin' apart Cap'n!

Captain Kirk "Fly her apart then D@mmit!"

Mr Spock voice " Why is the music 'pop goes the weasel' playing when we go over 34 PSI of boost?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif

Motor stength is superior to the others out there. I think I have proven that for a full year now. What other motor can you get 750-800hp (rwhp) out of with out any internal mods except for the trans. You get up to 800 (rwhp) and start to go over and you will develop some problems (as I found out at Thunder on the Mountain). Matter a fact, what engine in the word (for cars or pick up trucks) can you successfully go more than three times the stock HP and it will hold together with out any internal mods (Stock motor including fuel system and aspiration)? I have done it with 2 compleatly different Dmax motors and there will be more next year to prove that it is repeatable. Boost preasure around 32-34psi max. If you go over the 125hp moduals with a stock trans, you may limp it (no trashing it). You pull over and restart the truck and your ready to go (other wise it stays in 4th gear untill you turn off the motor). The trans slowly gets weaker with what it will hold however untill you upgrade. My drive train gets a worse work out than any one I know of, and it is still holding up like a champ after 65,000. Lots of cross country trips and going to Canada and Mexico (you don't want to break down in Mexico, they dont have Dmaxs down there yet). There are afew here with more miles that are at high hp levels as well that are doing pretty good too. No results as to how many miles it will go at that HP level, because no one in there right mind drives around with one of these beasts constaintly set at those levels. Not much will go many miles at that HP level anyway besides Union Pacific. Mine has stayed at the 500hp (rwhp) level for evey day driving for about 40,000 of those miles. Nice hot rod to drive around town with and not to dangerous. Edited by: Super Diesel

Same as stock if you can keep your foot outa ithttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

I average city highway driving like a fool 15-16 per tank consistently. This is done the old fasioned way not with a computer telling me. Best I ever got was 18 on a raod trip to a dyno day in wi, all interstate cruise set at 80, worse is while plowing averaging 12-14 or so(box is turned down though) 35k and loving every minute. I rebuilt my trans to hold more power at 27k, didnt break anything but the clutches were starting to go. Rebuilt the trans myself and turned up the power and a stang hunting I wenthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley15.gif

Juice just likes to push the envelope and blow up stock turbos. The dodge guys wernet going to let him into the wolf pack but he barks enough they figured they had to let him inhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif The turbos live pretty well if you dont crank up the boost and keep from barking em.

350 is still pretty respectable and a whole lota fun, I was running around that level and had a ball and most stuff cant touch you on the street. And look at what Greg(dock boy) has done with a "work truck" very clean and very fast. I may have went ford if I coulda got a 7.3 but when I was looking the new 6.0 just gave me the willies. I woulda taken loss in power for a proven performer.

Any where from 14 to 20 empty, and depends how fast I'm going. The worst so far against a gail force head wind in Utah with the 4000lb+ slide in camper and a 6500lb boat in tow at 75mph was about 9.5-10.5 mpg.
