: Wheel Spacers?

Hey guys, I just lifted my ex.cab and noticed that the rear wheels
don't stick out as far as the front. Has anyone else had this problem
and used spacers to push the rear wheels out a bit more? I mean, a 1/2"
on each side would make a big difference, but would you recommend it?
Details on the truck are in the sig, and thanks in advance.

I've got a set of 1/4" spacers clipped in with the brake rotor retaining clips. About a thread or two of the wheel studs is still showing with the wheels mounted. Not much difference but the 1/2" spread was noticeable. I'll most likely leave it at that.

Do you remember how many threads were showing before that?

If you do a search on wheel spacers you will find some good info on them. There are a few folks out there that run them with no problems. There are other folks that wouldn't touch them with a 10' stick. There are both steel and aluminum spacers available. I'm looking at a set of billet aluminum spacers from a place in Colorado. I measured the difference in track between the fronts and rears and I show a 2 3/4" difference without a lift. I was going to go with 1.5" spacers. Be aware that anything under a 2" spacer and you will have to cut the ends of your wheel studs off in order for the wheel to sit flush against the spacer.

I dont see why people are so scared of spacers for. They are used from the factory on some dually's. In the front. They aren't exactly the same thing, but are similar and perform the same job.

I have no problem with it, but my RCD installation manual says
specifically not to use wheel spacers with this kit. Why, I don't know?
I would really like the wheels pushed out about an inch though.

ace,

stupid question here, but when you say 2" is that on each side or total?

Thanks,

Dennis

Got them from Performancewheel.com.

Each one is 2" thick.

When I originally measured the difference front to rear, I think it was 3-1/4" total, figured adding 4" wouldn't hurt and would definately clear the Hummer centercaps I had to install. It doesn't and they do!

Here are some pics of the custom wheel spacers I had made for my truck. They are billet aluminum and are 1-5/8" deep...

I've got 1.25" spacers on each side in the rear. I've had this pupply loaded to the gills a few times now and haven't had any problems yet. They are billet, and like someone else said, I had to trim the studs by about 1/4 of an inch. That was easy enough with a cut-off wheel on my 4.5" angle grinder.

The really big thing to remember is to torque and then retorgue the spacers after install. Then you need to do the same for your wheels. With aluminum I'd recommend 120 ft/lb. Then the real challenge is to find the low profile lug nuts to fit inside the spacers so as not to pertrude outside the mounting face of the spacer.

A total of 2" would be great.
