What's the latest on the problems that surfaced with their lbz module? i waited to buy for that reason, but i am wondering if i should go ahead now. Did they work out the bugs?

They justed released the updated firmware & pda software. Nobody right now has had a problem to speak of yet. If you buy it just make sure you do the quick download from banks.

Quick update for everyone, Running the 1.8 update I took a trip down HWY 77 thru West Virginia. Biggest grade I could find was 5% for 5 miles. Towing at 21,800 combined in level three never one problem. Ran the cruse locked at MPH, never saw over 1120 EGT and only shifted to 4th twice in the second set of grades. Crossed four grades of about this size.

Yep, the new update seems to have taken care of the big 1st gear flatline, the intemittent loss of power, and the banks tuner code 42 trans slip issue. Works great. Seems smoother to me, maybe a little stronger, but my egts seem to climb a little quicker. Definitely a great piece of equiptment, don't hesitate to buy.

I have been receiving calls from a salesperson at banks several times over the past 5 months, that is when i first called them to inquire about their product. I have been holding off, but now after what you guys are saying, i think i am ready. I will probably buy right from banks, the sixgun and pda, unless there is a better deal. I don't have the price in front of me now, but what is a good price for the combo? from what i have been reading, i think i will stick to stock air cleaner, and maybe go with an exhaust after winter.

She was really cool about it. I thought for sure she was going to chew me a new one. She just bought that car two weeks ago to. She said, I thought you must have had a good day at work & nice burnout. :) I was shocked as hell.

So if I buy a six gun and PDA directly from Banks it will be the updated programmed unit? Or do you have to buy it and update it yourself?

CRASHNBURN
09-18-2007, 03:17 PM
It might be & it might not be. They have many units that are preboxed. It is really easy to update. Maybe banks does put it in all the new boxes. If they do not pm me & I will send it to you. It takes like 2 minutes to do.

After installing version 1.8 I got my first check engine light ever. i've got 21000 mile. I could not read it with the pda. i got a message telling me to make sure my key was on. sounds stupid ,because the truck was running.
I was able to clear it. now i get egr code 0403 (i think) low circuit power almost every day but no check engine light. any body got any ideas? I do not get codes on level 1.

Let me guess you were driving your truck while checking the codes? Check the codes while you are not moving & then you will be good to read the codes.

Is that maybe a bad egr?

Just wondering......does this 1.8 update resolve the defuel issue that some are having when flooring it? I've had this happen on a couple instances myself. I am guessing it is a defuel thing that is happening. I get on it and it'll get up like a bat outta hell, when all of a sudden it feels like the engine fell out from under the truck....no power, then she stumbles for a second and she's right back in it, with no codes ever. It happens moreso when I have the AC running. Is this what the defueling feels like? It shocked the heck outta me the 1st time it happened. I thought I blew my tranny, but then she ran fine. I have the Banks Ram Air and Monster Duals on an 06 Ext cab, 6.6L LBZ. Any words of wisdom? Recommendations?

Does this happen only on the "SL" level. Banks has that level defuel in level 2 really bad because the want to save the stock tranny. You can adjust that level up if you want. If it is in all levels, this is the fix you were looking for. I can send you the update if you want. I just need your email address.

i didn't know that i was not supposed to check for codes while driving. it was not mentioned in the banks manual.

it seem that i'm getting codes with version 1.8 that i didn't get wiht version 1.7.

I swore I could check the codes running to, but I thought maybe I was wrong. If that is the only thing "wrong" with it, I can live with that one. What code are you getting? I have not received a code yet.

I checked and cleared codes all the time while driving with 1.7 I kinda had to if I wanted to not get killed. When your engine codes and limps while pulling a big trailer up a mountain grade with nowhere to pull off, you get real good at checking and clearing codes on the fly. All this, while driving, checking mirrors to see if you are about to be rear-ended, and answering questions from the wife like "what was that?" "what's going on?" "when are you going to return that thing?"
Glad some of you are having luck with the new fix...

I think you can still clear, but you can not check while driving. Maybe they are working on it.

What do you have to do after updating your PDA with version 1.8. I thought I would have to install back into truck and then update the tuner but when I tried this it gave me an error code. After pressing DOWNLOAD button get the following error "ERROR: 29-519 Could Not Find or Open Proper File For Firmware Update." Also when I go into gauge setup there are no options available under choose desired parameters but when I click on the empty box I get another error and then a reset message pops up. Any ideas?

Did you first delete the 1.7 version off of your pda? Did you get the firmware update & the pda update or just the pda update from the website. You will need both. You can call Banks or I can send it to you. Trust me I have sent them to tons of people. They are the real file virus free. Pm me your email & I will email you the fireware & pda file & the directions.

CrashNBurn........thanks for the updates. So I've updated my PDA with v1.8. What else do I need to do in order to update the "firmware"? I know I will need to update the tuner in the truck once I get back home, but turning the key to ON then selecting the UPDATE TUNER option. But what do I do with the other file you sent? Sorry bout being new to it all. Thanks.

CrashNBurn thanks for the updates and instructions. Got both PDA and tuner updated and they are working good now. For future reference where on Banks site do you find the firmware update as I could only find the software update?

For those that are running Vista You may want to Download a working solution form www.Palm.com (http://www.Palm.com) or Sync With Microsoft Outlook if you have it (2007).

OK Crash..I DL'd the update and it is ready on my laptop for a hot sync to get it onto my Palm. I'm using PalmOne Quick install to do that.. Are you saying that prior to hot sync, I should delete the whole banks 6gun version (1.7) that is resident there..?? Will it not (update), overwrite the older version.??

I'm Very curious as I just removed my system from my truck. No problems, it's just that my truck is up for sale and I figure it will likely sell better/quicker with the Banks system removed and sold as a standalone. I am wondering if it is worth it to re-connect to update the whole works or sell it as is with Ver 1.7 on both the PDA and the Module. I bought it / installed it in May - took it out this weekend and before I list the works, gonna have to get some idea as to whether to update to Ver 1.8 or not.

Thanx,

I pretty sure the directions I sent you said to delete the file completely & then hot syn it. Are you sure you want to sell that truck of yours? I would just sell it the way it is, if you do not want to plug back in the sixgun. Just hand the person the 3 files & they can just update it. It takes likes 2 minutes to do. It is not that big of a deal. You should be able to sell it that way. Have them come to this site & ask us & then we will tell them no big deal.

Well, thanks to crash I have the new 1.8, installed just fine. Only problem is, I still have the damn 2-3 shift bog. The levels seem to be either a little hotter, or better programmed because all the levels are a heck of a lot more responsive than before (buddy of mine took it for a spin the other day with the old program, and then again today with the new and he was asking what I did different and what new toy I added because it was picking up and going much faster). So, I wonder why the 2-3 bog exists still (lasts for a good second, then it comes on strong but it's killing my 60' and 0-60, best I can get 0-60 is 6.8, if the damn 1-1.5 second delay wasn't happening I'd be down in the high 5s.)

Are you in the "sl" level? If you are, you will need to move up the shifting & fuel points, but be careful if you have the stock tranny. If that is not it, keep us posted then.

Yes it's in the SL setting, but I have already increased the shifting and fuel points. Went out and ran on level 6 and can get 6.52-6.4s 0-60 now. But the SL setting still has that damn 'pop' @ the 2-3 shift.

I guess make sure you switch all the spots for the defuel areas & shifting points. I will have to take a look at it tonight, if the wife will let me. :)

I like it. I think it is a great setup. If you are looking for a mileage & towing chip the ottomind by Banks might be a better one, but it is not out yet. You must remember that some of the cheaper ones you should buy gauges & the pda has the built in gauges. Those gauges do cost money to. Plus you get the safety features with the banks unit. Mileage has been really good with the unit to, plus you can still tune some things also in the sl level.
