I am very new the the Duramax and have been trying to do my homework on what performance upgrades to do and what if any will not void my warranty. Anyone know about the Banks Stinger package or hypertech?

Buy a HOT Juice or try the new Quadzilla tuner.

Waiting for someone to buy a Quad tuner so I can get some first hand data.

I have had really good luck with the regular Juice. Lots of extra power when towing, which is what I wanted/needed. As far as the warranty, it is a don't ask don't tell thing, unless you find a good dealer that doesn't mind...mine does, right down to looking for the velcro strips!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif

I recommend Edge products great customer service and very reliable product ..

Edge is the ONLY tuner that I know of that monitors as the stock TCM does tranny slippage in order to preserve life ... This alone makes it worth it in my book ...

Soon they will be releasing an in the cab controller that will double as a G-tec,and gauges as in egt and boost, and on the fly setting changes ...

If your a true bomber the power will come down the road ...

Diesel Power

bybycop - I had a Banks Stinger on my truck, and have since put it up for sale. It worked great, zero problems. decent power, lots down low. however it definately won't win if you're going for MAX HP (like some guy with a strip layin' black doooole). However, if you just want some very safe power (it won't let you over-temp the motor) that works geat for towing then its a good idea.

If you want power, listen to Mackin... then again, he eats tranny's for breakfast too. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif

I also like the predator, because as well as increasing power, it functions as a OBDII scan tool, can adjust for larger tires/raise speed limiter, and its cheaper.

however the Juice is a fine product.. as a matter of fact some juice guys will probably try and spank my predator this weekend at the Sacramento get together.. heheh

My dealer says any "chips or programmers" will void the warranty. So I take off the Juice when the truck goes in for service. On the other hand, a dealer 30 miles away installed a Juice on my friends truck and told him "not to worry about warranty issues".

Hey diesel power thanks for answering my question. I would like to get the predator so I can also change my tire size. Do I need to worry about it over heating my engine? Do you have the Monster exhaust? Do you like the way it sounds? Any problems with bolting it on?

the predator can be had from James @ www.runninwiththedevil.com (http://www.runninwiththedevil.com). if i were buying ANY type of power box/programmer i would get gauges.. just to be safe! i do have the monster exhaust. i love the sound and the construction is first rate. i've installed it on 3 trucks and it fit perfect every time.

im sold. Im ording the Monster tomorow! Now i just need to decide what chip/ programmer to get. The reason I am considering the stinger kit is cause it already comes with gauges and waste gate. What is an alternative for gauges and how important is the waste gate control?

RV Guy
09-03-2003, 08:55 AM
I have owned and ran the Hot Juice for many months and have been quite happy with it. I recently purchased the Quadzilla Stealth Tuner, 135 HP model and conducted some side-by-side testing (if you know what I mean) with another Duramax...one with the Quad in 135 HP level and Hot Juice in 125 HP level. They are very, very close in performance with no clear winner over the other.

I like some of the features of the Quad such as code reading and resetting, tire size speedo correction and speed/rpm limiter eliminator.

I too, and interested in the Edge controller when it is released.

I recently towed with the Quad and it does a great job and EGTs were easily under 1100 degrees the entire pull.

Thanks for the link 02Dmax! Just checkin out your pics, nice truck! Any words of advice for installing the monster exhaust?

The Banks is very easy to install .... I installed mine right in my driveway with a good floor jack ..... I was able to remove in two pieces, unbolted at the flange and of course at the downpipe V clamp ....

Remove the Right (passenger) shock for clearance over the rear differential .....

Once the shock is removed use a block on the jack saddle to raise right corner of truck to give maximum clearance between body and rear axle .... You do not need the wheel (s) off the ground ... The rear portion of the exhaust will come forward over the differential ...

Use some soapy water or WD40 on the rubber hangers for ease of removal. They can be stubborn ...

Install the Banks according to instructions given with the kit ...

Hey Guys. How critical is it to have an exhaust and guages when you are running Juice?? I would like to slap one in the Dmax, but am also going to be hard-pressed for $$ going to WASSU and having a new truck. Could I still run it, and keep it at a lower tune and maybe off for towing, and be safe??

I have BURIED the 1600 degree gauge on my truck...............IMHO running gauges are a must.

Gauges....Exhaust....Air Intake and then you'll take full advantage of the power mod.

Believe me the temptation is too great to push once you have the power available, Me and my "virgin tranny" know all about it.

bybycop,

Not to take anything away from EDGE 'cause I love the HOT OJ, but I have heard that the new Quadzilla tuner has got comparable HP, features you are looking for like reflash for tires etc. and is a loader meaning it reflashes the ECM like a Predator does.

Juice and Hot Juice are CAN-BUS plug ins meaning they plug into the harness for the engine, no ECM reflash with that set-up.

IN the long run with the Attitude controller from Edge it's a tough one to pick.

Keep the tunes lower and the tranny will last. Under 90hp shouldn't be too hard on the tranny long term.

I will be getting a Quadzilla soon, waiting for the right price.........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

From all the reading I have done, 90hp is considered safe for the tranny. I have yet to limp on the 90hp level with my regular juice. I haven't been keeping up with all the boxes since I got mine, so I have no clue what else is out there.

Hope this helps some...

4x4man,

Edge has programmed thier box to talk with the Allison TCM and in the event of a tranny slip the Edge backs down on the power.

On another note if you stack a pressure type box or a tuner program like the Predator with the Juice - REG or HOT it seems to defeat the defueling and will cause a P0700 DTC code also known as a Transmission Malfuction .

That code can only be reset by the TECH II Scanner, I know cause I have a few stored now in my TCM and cannot be reset by The Predator.

GMC. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

However a trip to FL in December and a stop over at SunCoast should prevent that code from re-appearing. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

GMC,

Very good to know! Whats your thoughts on the Juice/Attitude combo? Looks like Ive narrowed it down to that or the Quad. Every spare moment I get Im doing my homework in either.

Mikehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

GMC-2002-Dmax
09-05-2003, 09:07 PM
I like the Juice.

It was the first power mod I have done and in CT we have almost every combo dyno'd so we know what is what as far as HP/TQ.

I have seen my truck go from 249 HP/ 422 TQ stock to 387 HP/ 721 TQ on HOT Juice only.

Same Hot Juice stacked with the 40HP Predator tune yielded 408 HP/ 742 TQ.

Same Hot Juice stacked with the 60HP Predator tune yielded 412 HP/ 755 TQ.

Same Hot Juice stacked with the 40HP Predator and the VA pressure box tune yielded 435 HP/ 774 TQ.

Same Hot Juice stacked with the 60HP Predator and the VA pressure box tune yielded 429 HP/ 785 TQ.

VA Box all by itself yielded 301 HP / 523 TQ

I know I was slipping the tranny on the Dyno, we could see the TECH II showing 3120 rpm input and 2800 rpm output with the TECH II commanding 4th gear lock and TCC lock.

GMC http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

The new Predator tunes are coming out next week I heard and have them hopefully on the way.

The Quadzilla has not been on a dyno here yet but am hoping to get a loaner or buy one for the next dyno day in CT.

bybycop
09-05-2003, 09:28 PM
Soneone earlier stated that the attitude will act as the g tech and also change tire sizes??? Any confirmation on that one? Did you use the predator to change your tire size?

GMC-2002-Dmax
09-05-2003, 09:48 PM
Yes,

The Attitude is reported to be a G-Tech type tool.

As far as I know it will display the corrected speed but will not alter the speedo in the dash as the Quad and Predator will.

The Predator is also a Scan Tool - DTC code reader and will reset all ECM codes.

It also allows real time data monitoring such as injector balance , TPS , boost, MAP, MAF etc. The display is larger than a Quadzilla/BD and it seems to be decent.

When I get the new tunes for the Predator I will update everyone, hopefully before the next CT Dyno Day III.

They do not charge you untill the product arrives and ships, i oredered mine already from there, no chrges till it ships. I beleive what thier site means on the monitor is that they have ones coming out for the ford and the d-max, not that both are the exact same monitor. I would not be suprised if they were the same though, all the monitor is is a LCD with a few buttons to pick options off the screen, i think the programming in the box is all that would be different

Have you decided which box you will buy? Just go with the Stealth 135, you will love it. And besides when you tow/haul or just don't want all that power, you can chose from 0hp, 70hp, 90hp, and 110hp.

All the other perameters work at any setting including stock horse power.

Mike,

I did decide to go with the stealth 135hp. I made my mind after your post! I really apriciate you doing that and taking the time to share! That was way cool. I know a lot of other people would agree with me that we need more posts like that. Thanks!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Any other info you come across that might help. Please feel free to post! Keep me posted on any new projects!
