I'm running these in BFG Mud Terrains. I had to crank almost all the way to make them fit, and they barely fit without any trimming. They ride nice, and are not too loud. If you like the tall skinny look, go for them. I would get this tire and size again.

M55's are way too expensive IMO. I want a set but not sure they are worth it.

What rims are you running?

on stock rims the fit fine other than trimming the wheelwell plastic.

I've got maxxis big horns, pics in my lly garage, ride good, handle good and tow my 14k bumper pull flatbed fine.

i have about 8,000 miles on my 255'S. They ride and drive fine, but off road in sand or mud they are the worst tire i have ever had.have been stuck in my pasteur 3 times and twice in some sandy ground at the deer camp.I have driven these same areas for 10+ years and have never gotten stuck in any of my other trucks, with 285's. I am getting them taken off and 285's put on tomorrow. At this point any drop in Fuel mileage will be worth any off road ability i gain. Everyone I have talked to seems to think the 255's just dont have enough flotation due to the width.. This time next week I should know if there is any difference.!

So the 255's gave you better fuel economy? Any trimming in the wheel well? Were you able to find this size in an E rated tire?

I was running the Coopers. My dealer raised the bars an inch before i ever drove it off the lot. I just couldnt stand the hiked up rear end. I replaced the sissy 245's at about 100 miles with the 255's and never had to trim anything. They fit fine, ride fine, handle fine and my mileage is 17-19 depending on how much idle time i have. The 285's are about 2.6 inches wider than the 255.s but about the same height. I hope they make a difference but I am not making any bets.!

285s on a 16" rim are almost 2 inches taller than 255s.

255/85/16 tires are just over 33" tall. 285/75/16 tires are just under 33" tall in most all popular brands. I've run both sizes and the Cooper ST's are the best off road tire I've tried in the 255 size.

30mm is only 1.181"

some on here have put 255 on rear and 285 on front.

I've ran 255s on my other truck for years, and I used to be a BFG mud tire basher. I've had all kinds of mud tires from cooper to cheap ones to in between and a BFG 255 mud terrain flat out will keep you on those mud roads and go like no other tire brand and size out there. For what I do its all I will run anymore.

Not a good idea. A friend of mine tried that on his dually with a new set of Toyo's. They rubbed the sidewalls from flexing until one blew out. Not sure how many miles on them but there was a lot of tread left.

NOt enough dual spacing for 255's on duals.
I think that size could actually be approved for the 6.5 inch alum stock wheels. Anyone with the specs on that tire can tell us what rims it is approved on?

255"s would be great on a dually with a small spacer. My buddy runs 285"s on his dually :D.

I plan on adding Freds spacers to keep the duals apart. I was told by Tire Warehouse that I cant run 255s on a 6 inch rim, their book calls for 6.5 minimum. They said I would crown the tires and wreck the tread. I find it hard to believe that a 1/4 inch on either side of the rim is going to wreck the tires that fast. Especially since I have four in the back sharing the load and I'm empty 90% of the time. Very very few options in that size. I was leaning toward the TrXus MT, but after seeing the Bighorns on Dmax Tims truck I may head in that direction. I didnt like them at first judging by the pics on Ebay, but on the truck they look good. And probably cheaper than a TSL. I would buy the BFG MTs, but I'm not made of money.
I think I'm going to have to add a body lift to get some extra clearance. I was going to do green keys but I don't want to lift the frame much more, since my hitch and plowframe are already maxed out.

I'd rather run 255s on 6" rims than everyone running 285,295,305 on 6.5" rims.

with your dually run the air lower when not hauling to flatten the tire.

Does anyone actually have a set of 255's on a new model 2007.5-2008 dually?

I am ready for tires and don't know what size I can fit without any rubbing. I have the incognito leveling kit with uca... and a set of Fred's spacers standing by.

285 will be little if any better. Have you had diesels in the past there a bit heavier and all of the TQ will dig you into a hole fast.

This is no 5 in Diesel trucks for me.. I have owned the same property for 20+ years too.. Been crossing the same creek, stopping in the same sandy ground checking feeders and etc. I hardly ever even used 4x4 in my other trucks,,I could idle thru everything in 2wd unless it had been raining for days. I wonder if being a shorter wheelbase has anything to do with it? all my other trucks were long bed crew cabs with 285's.The 255's didnt seem to kill mileage, thats for sure.Although i had less than a thousand miles when they were mounted.. I have ran them about 10,000 miles and average mileage is 16.1 so far. Been on the end of a chain 4 different times with a different brand of truck doing the pulling so you can imagine the grief i have had to put up with...
