Can't get my damn search to work. Could someone point me to it, or is it more like screw off, screw onhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

screw off, move magnet from old filter to new filter, screw back on. I like to put a little fluid on the o-ring/gasket as well to get a good seal....just like changing the oil.

This is dumb, but, do you empty all the oil first? or just simply take the filter off..

Just take the filter off. You won't lose much fluid, basically just what was in the filter.

I prefill my filter with ATF AFTER I put the magnet on. If you prefill and then have the mag on it may spit atf all over when the mag sucks itself down.

I am sorry but I have the dumb question of the day.

What does the magnet do? This is my first diesel and allison. I do not understand the magnet with the oil tranny filter

all the metallic crud that is running around in your transmission sticks to it. . . make it look like a hole with fuzz around it. . . A beautiful sight.

No harm in doing it sooner rather than later. . . Filter is under 10 bucks. . . I do mine everytime I change the oil. . .

You don't have to, but if you do then you won't have to add any through the filler tube. ;)

Well you actually do have to add some through the filler tube, at least in my experience. Even if you don't spill any out of the filter when you remove the old one, some tranny fluid drains from the pan, so you do need to add some through the filler tube if you want to be completely anal like me.

I really dont like seeing fuzz on the hole but it keeps coming back so I guess its normal? Maybe I flog my allison to hard? ;) ):h Fuzz magnets are cool hehehe):h

Change your spin at your first oil change!

Just refilling the filter should get you close enough. After a few changes you may wana add, or atleast keep checking it. I slightly overfilled my trans during the rebuild and the first change I didnt fill the filter and it didnt change the level much.
