: Got a shaky vertical camper mirror?

I removed my OEM vertical camper mirrors this week to install some TTTs.

I always wondered why the passenger mirror shook way more than the driver side. Turns out one of the lower bolts that mounts to the door was broken off. Not a stripped nut, but the bolt was actually broken off where it mounts to the mirror. Looks like it's been that way from the start, as the broken ends are rusted and I've never had the mirrors off before.

If you have a shaky mirror, it's worth a 10 minute check to remove the plastic triangle cover and remove each nut and check that each bolt is still intact.

On a side note, it only took a 20 minute drive to fall in love with the TTTs. Making a left turn into the parking garage at work is no longer a scary event. Unable to see over the top of the OEM vertical mirrors, I always expected a subcompact car to pop out of the huge blind spot created by these mirrors. Now I just look over the top of the TTT. :)

And how do you know if they are broken?

The plastic triangle on the inside of the door?

The triangle is the plastic cover that snaps off (using your fingers) it on the upper front of the inside door panel.

Pull out on the upper portion and the two clips will come right out, then lift it up. Remove the foam behind it and you can visually inspect the bolts that hold the mirror on. Use a small socket and check to make sure that they (3) are tight.

I haven't looked at the new body style (07.5s) to see if the mirror bolts are accessed the same way????

On mine, I could not tell it was broken till I pulled the mirror. As you can see in this photo, the bolt has a backing plate. This allowed the nut to be tight, but the bolt was not holding the mirror.

Gotta be careful with those lights. You can't see them from the cab and they stick out another 1/2" from the visible edge of the mirror.

This is how a spotter mirror should work!

How tough was the install? Was it plug and play or did you have to do some extra wiring?

If you just buy the plain or heated versions, the swap will probably take you 60-90 minutes. My TTTs have the turn signal/running lamp, so I have to run some wires back to the light switch to get the running lamp function to work. This probably adds 90 minutes to the process.

None of it is hard, it's just time consuming.

Mine shake, but I installed them myself. They have always shook. I like the TTT's, but I think they are too expensive for me. I don't really need a camper mirror, I just liked the idea of having a bigger mirror

Mine started shaking at around 2 or 3000 miles. Maybe I should check it then...

Jumping in here because I did a search on Mirror shake I have the power retractable two mirrors and my driver mirror shakes, But it is not the mirror just the glass. If you adjust the mirror all the way to any of the corners it is nice and tight but when it is in the sweet spot it will vibrate at idle. You can touch the glass with your finger and it will move easily about 2 millimeters. Looking behind the glass it looks like there are arms made from what looks like spring steel that come off the plastic backing to the glass and reach around the convex plastic area surrounding the pan and tile motor. Has anyone seen this? Can I get these mirrors apart without braking glass?
