I have a 1992 S-10 and had a previous post about thinking my timing was off but have come to realize its my Censored EGR valve. I took it off and did the normal checks but am not familiar enough with what they should feel or look like. Anyhow I put it back on and it still ran like crap. I pulled the vacum line off and sure enough it ran fine. My question is this...Can I keep that vacum line off and run the truck as it is or do I really need to buy a $75 EGR and replace it? I know it raises combustion temps when off, and Im sure as hell not worried about the EPA BS, but is it enough to worry about? Thanks fellas.

The problem isn't the valve from what you just posted, it closes when there's no vacuum applied. The problem is you have vacuum full time instead of only during part throttle cruise. Check the vacuum hose routings and the control solenoid for proper venting and operation.

In the mean time keep the vacuum line off, it will fail NOX on an emissions tests but other than that you'll be fine.

Thanks Vernon...I knew you would be first to help me out :D

Anyhow I checked for vacum full time and it only "sucks" (vacum that is :) ) when throttle is given. I know it runs REALLY rich when its hooked up. Anyhow I dont think Im going to mess with it if its ok to run it the way it is.

No problem, sounds like the control solenoid valve is just stuck open.

Put a delay valve in the vac line, it'll allow EGR but slows it down, they're a pain to find but an "old timer" GM parts guy knows what to look for

Could also stick a bb or ball bearing in the hose and hook it back up. Looks factory and runs fine. Won't pass a smog check though.
