I'm looking for some input on towing with a 5th wheel. I'm currently shopping for a 5th Camper, with the intent of pulling my 17' fishing boat behind it when we go camping. What are some expiriences doing this? What is the length requirement in MN? Thanks,

Hookem, The main thing to do is beef up the rear of your camper for the hitch. Most of them are built out of heavy sheetmetal in the rear & won't support a hitch. I welded a 3" sq 3/8" wall tube between the frame rails on mine & welded the hitch to it.

The only problem towing is you can't backup. Most states allow at least 65' length.

Surge brakes are also nice on the boat trailer.

When the A2 is available from edge I plan on putting the wireless camera on the back of my 5ver. It sure would be nice to see what is going on with the boat.

In MN, you can tow a boat behind a fifth wheel, but not a travel trailer. Also, the total length can not exceed 65 feet. The length comes from my brother-in-law who is a state trooper for MN. I have seen other references to 75 feet for MN.

My brother-in-law says he is waiting for MN to change the length restriction so he can trade in the motor home for a fifth wheel so he can pull his boat at the same time. He says he would be over the length restriction with his boat and the size FW he wants (about 30ft).

According to that site, you can't tow your boat behind your fifth wheel in MN. You had better check with the DMV to get the straight answer. Just be prepared for them to tell you that you can't pull the boat.

If I read that correctly in TX you can not tow two trailers so do that mean you can not tow the boat and FW in TX? You see it all the time here.

That's the same chart I go by and I always though you couldn't tow two trailers in Min. Wish all the states could come up with the same regulations.

I tow my 42 fountain 12000lbs with a bumper hitch. No need for a 5th wheel

Works great, I pull a 28 foot 5er with a 18 foot ski boat behind it. Brakes are a definate advantage on the boat trailer. Dont have them, but need them. Also, watch were you pull into. Im 69 feet from bumper to prop. Had to step up to a real truck to do so.
