: HEADLIGHT BOOSTER

I just bought the JK headlight booster and bulbs. I installed them tonight and am impressed with the 4 light system. I did not see a great difference in the low beam. I do not understand the difference between the bulbs I bought from JK and the factory ones. The one's that were in the truck were 55 and 60 watt philips. The ones I bought from JK were 55 and 65 from philips????

Anyway does anybody know how I could wire up two driving lights from this setup. I would like them to come on with the high beam.

Anyhelp would be appreciated.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

There are several "all lights on mods" here

I did one with a diode soldered on under the steering column.

Do a site search

If you look at the numbers/letters on the bulbs, you'll see that they are close, but different. The Phillips Premium has a PR in the number. They are the high line and put 30% more light on the road.

I don't advocate the use of the fog lights with the high beams, but it can be done. I always approach these type of mods as plug and play if possible like the 4 light feature on my harness...

I installed Sylvania Silver Stars, and they a f$%&ing bright. No need to use the fog lamps or high beams.

Its a major difference. I thought it would be a slight improvement, but
I was wrong. They're almost as bright as my brothers HID. I'll be
buying them for all my vehicles from now on.

Can anybody give me directions on how to hook up to auxillary driving lights. Can I just tap into the highbeam wire?

Be aware, though, that these bulbs do not last long. I replace
one at least once every 3 months...( and I dont do too much night
driving) Sylvania also states they are only good for one
year. I like the SStars, but I am going to HID b/c of the short
lifespan. (and no, i dont touch the bulb)

Hope your luck is better than mine.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

JK,

Why do you not advocate the use of the fogs with the high beam lights? My thought on this would be that the fogs would luminate the area directly in front of and to the sides of the truck and the highs would luminate for the distance?

YUKONDMAX,

You could drive a relay from that high beam wire, but I would be leary
adding an entire set of lights from it. Run a fused wire from the
fuse box that you control with either a relay or a switch (or
both). You could easily overload and melt those wires running
your high beams and driving lights.

A word of caution- most States have laws allowing a max of 4 forward facing headlights (Wisconsin's wording not mine) on at anyone time or the long arm of the law has another excusse to pull you over. A friend of mine got a ticket for this very item last fall- cost 184.00 and 3 pts plus he had to have the vehical inspected to make sure he complied- per the judge. Just another pain in the a$%.

Yukon,

The HB kit should have no effect on the fog lamps. I'd look into the fuses etc to see what is happening.

Silverstars are not really different from the Phillips Premium series. Xenon chared for whiter light.

Some regs do not allow 4 headlamps on high beam either. More of a high/low combination issue I am told. Looking at an "off road only" clause for this feature to keep the heat off.

Personally, I only use my fog lights when I meet some SOB with theirs on, or I'm all alone on the road...

JK,

Is there a specific reason that you do not like the fog lights?

Guess I will be the SOB you will be meeting on the road because I run with them on 100% of the time at night and always with all lights turned on when pulling a trailer.

The new GM's in particular are very bright and glare oncoming traffic. The old GM's like my 2002 weren't bad.

I don't dislike fog lights, I dislike their daily use when not necessary.

JK,

Ok, thanks for the response. We now have two 2004 Chevy D/A's to pull the race trailer and campers and I guess I sort of did notice that the new fogs were brighter than the old 01's. Guess I will have to pay a little more attention to some of the new GM's to see if I notice more glare/blinding. I drive about 25,000 to 30,000 miles at night with a black truck and 30' black trailer and I like being able to see where I am going (count on fogs to light up the immediate front and sides looking for deer) when we are hammer down trying to get home very late at night. I know that some people are offended by the fogs, but I personally like the light to be able to see better. IMO believe it sort of works just like the cars (and trucks too) with the HID's. May have to reconsider my use of them 100% of the time!

I have the Sylvania Silver Stars installed in mine. I installed the 65 watt (high beam bulbs) in the low beam housing (cleared the socket key out of the bulb). I also have the 99-cent diode mod 1:(DRLs on all time) and 2:(highs on with lows).

Enough light for my taste.

As for Sylvania Silver Stars lifespan, in the 2 years I have been running them, I have only needed to replace 1 bulb.

Well I live in the Yukon Territory of Canada and this is the land of the MIDNIGHT SUN, however it is also the land of the TOTAL WINTER DARKNESS. The other nice thing about this part of the world is that traffic is very light and you can leave your driving lights on for hours on end without meeting oncoming traffic!!! Real nice to spot that Moose or Caribou crossing in front of you.

I just love my PIAA super white platinum series bulbs. I purchased them in 99 for my Z71 and I have had the low beams on pretty much 24/7 for the last 5 years due to the daytime running lights and I have not replaced one yet (knock on wood) :D. They are now in my 2004 Dmax and they are still kicking like they did on the day I installed them in 99. I would highly recommend these as I now get flashed like at least 3 times every night, I just love surprising them with the high beams ;). I think I paid like 60 bucks for each set.

Take Care - Canoli
