: 2001 Stalling just after starting...
Docfranco 09-04-2007, 03:53 PM I have an 01 2500HD not chipped just has a 4" exhaust which has been stalling intermittently, shorter intervals lately. Just after starting it up within about 100-200 feet it dies. It turns over fine & when i pump the primer on the fuel filter it fires back up and runs fine. Until today when it died 3X before i could get out of the parking lot...It sounds like air in the system. I had a nicktane filter put on about 3-4 months ago so I don't think that is the problem. My oem filter has about 11,000 miles & 1 1/2 years which i will be changing to see if that help. It also seems to be running rough, not sure there is a connection but is also happening.
But my question is about the manual primer, when i begin to pump it there is no resistance then after 5-10 pumps it firms up ......but i also notice fuel leaking from the top of the filter or bottom of the primer...id there a diaphragm there i need to replace or ??
I talked briefly to Mike L about it and he concurs about the filter, did not get a chance to ask him about the leaking primer...he is too busy this week...
Does anyone have a suggestion for a diesel shop near Torrance if i have to have it looked at??
sparky1562 09-04-2007, 08:35 PM Leaking from the pump or at the damn plastic bleeder? The pump sounds like it is acting normal.

It "seems" like from under the manual pump diaphram area, i will look closer to see if it is the plastic bleeder screw, it that a common place to leak?
GM wants 540.00 for the fuel filter "assembly".....ouch Of course they would not sell just the diaphram....or the pump...

I had the same problem, If you have Nicktane and it was installed, you total milage on the oem should not exceed 15k miles or depends on fuel quality....Change filter would more and likely cure problem

the top area of the pump or bleeder screw ( i will check tonight) only leaks when i manually pump it up to restart it...
Can i assume the bleeder screw is available without having to buy the whole engine or truck?? LOL
i will change the filter and report back...

Bleeder screw is plastic, stupid design, but there have been minor issues of strong hands on screwdrivers tightening them really tight. And if it leaks when you manually pump it, look close at or to the right of the primer pump and verify where the leak is. Oring on bleeder valve could be damage

i will check when i get home....i will hope the GM parts guy does not tell me it is 53,569.00 for the screw because they don't sell "just the screw"...you have to buy an 2007 truck to get a bleeder screw...can you tell i am a little pissed about that??
sparky1562 09-04-2007, 09:00 PM My dealer got me a new bleeder screw (plastic one) but they don't sell it separate! It broke off right after they did some work on it and also changed the filter, so they took the heat for damaging it! Last time I checked with several of the vendors on this site, no one had any plastic bleeder screws.
I bought the brass one from Lubricationspecialist, but have not put it on yet.
I hope it is not your housing. Easy to replace, maybe you can find one cheaper if it is.
You might try pressuring the tank and see if any leaks show up on the vacuum side of the fuel system.

Is the one from lubercationspecialist made for the application? do you have a link or #??
Docfranco 09-11-2007, 03:03 AM It must have been the filter, I have not had any instance of previous problems since the filter change. Thanks for the ideas....:p::p:
