: Predator versus PPE

In this post it indicates that neither one has trans protection (Bckdwn Slip/EGT), but the PPE lists defueling between shifts as a standard feature. Is that not the same thing, or am I missing something?
On the ones that indicate Slip, EGT or both, how do the accomplish protection, if not defueling?
How effective is it on levels 1/2?
Shawn M. 09-04-2007, 02:06 PM I haven't used the predator so I can't comment on that. The PPE defuels between shifts which will help protect your trans. The defueling will help protect the trans from slipping but it will not pull away power if the trans is slipping which In my opinion having a programmer that takes away power once it can tell that the trans is slipping is to little to late. I do think that the programmer pulling away power because the EGT's are getting too high is a good thing but if you have a pyrometer you can keep an eye on it yourself. You asked how effective it is on level 1/2, assuming that you are asking about the PPE I can tell you that my Dad is very happy with his on level 2 but before that his truck was always stock. I like the PPE on level 2 better than a Hypertech on level 3 because I feel like the PPE has better throttle response. Again I have never used the Predator and there seems to be lots of people who are happy with both the PPE and the Predator.
I hope this helps.
Unit453 09-04-2007, 02:13 PM Theres a big misconception there concerning the "trans protection"...
First of all, if one was truly concerned about protecting the trans, they would leave the truck stock. Adding an additional hundred h.p. is never good on anything and naturally, parts are gonna wear faster.
Now, these programmers (underhood control modules) that offer "trans protection", is not what you think. They detect slippage, THEN back down the power....The problem is that, its already slipped, causing damage to the trans, BEOFRE it detected it, then defueling it. Its not a fail safe system at all and many people think that since they've got trans protection, they're all set. None of these programmers or control modules are perfect and all have enough power to fry a stock tranny. It just all depends on your right foot, how hard on it you are.
Unknown303 09-04-2007, 06:30 PM I have a predator and theres no Transmission protection. Doesn't seem like it defuels between shifts and that can make it a little hard on the 4-5. Other then that I'm super impressed with the Predator but its the only one that i have tried.

Alas, there is no Santa Clause! That is what I thought...

But why?
Hammer 4 09-04-2007, 09:01 PM But why?
I'll take a shot at answering..:D
The PPE prolly has the most "drivable" tunes for a handheld, i.e. on my 03 the trans once it relearns your driving habits, and the extra power, shifts crisp, but smooth as butter, no jerking ect. Power delivery is smooth too. There may be more reasons and maybe others will chime in, but the real big reason is the Customer Service, the guys at PPE are Outstanding in answering ?'s.
As you can see Dan gets on here as much as he can to answer ?'s. I think the best way is to call, or PM him.

Yes there is sparky...he just has sheep now days to help him out.;)
ttp2200 09-05-2007, 06:18 PM because the ppe is my third programmer and ishould have got it from the start because you can start from 1 and when ready go to 350hp!!!!!!!
sparky1562 09-05-2007, 09:03 PM Do you agree with Hammer 4? Have you ever had the Predator?

Very good point and totally correct!:exactly:
Southern Bred 09-05-2007, 11:04 PM I've run both. The Predator run a lot higher EGT's on a smaller tune when I towed and there is a big difference in drivability IMO. Good Luck
