Just wondering if any one has put the Flowmaster exhaust on there Dmax? If so how loud is it and could you tell if you gained any power?

Sunny4x4chick,

Bubba is right, the Flowmaster muffler design isn't diesel oriented at all. There are some folks here that have it but for the most part especially by the number of replacement mufflers we sell to Duramax owners that have gotten the Flowmaster system I would say you would not be very happy.

Check out our site at www.dieselperformanceparts.com (http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com) or call us and we will be glad to help you with any questions you might have.

Here is a link to a review of our systems on this site for you too:

THE EXHAUST MANUF. BOYS WILL NOT LIKE ME HERE but I suggest a search on the subject. You will find some data.

For stock or near stock trucks like mine http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif , see the following;

I use the Flowmaster muffler with stock exaust and would not trade it for anything. Very deep and throaty sound but not too loud. Sound is personal preference of course.

Also, I have not seen a post where anyone gained enough horsepower over just adding a muffler, if any, to warrant the big bucks for some of the full exaust systems. For racing performance, a good flowing muffler with 3-1/2" outlets, is all you need.

If you pull a lot with power boxes, then the exausts may help EGTs. I have seen no posts where EGTs are a factor on the dragstrip even for some of the high 11 second trucks.

The big exhausts look nice though, if thats what you want. Buy one for looks, but don't expect big performance gains. Edited by: gmccall

I replaced my stock muffler with the flowmaster 53553 and am happy with the improvement in response and MPG. Gets a bit loud at 2500RPM's as the pilot injection shuts off, otherwise fairly quiet. Easy replacement for the stock muffler. I will eventually replace the entire exhaust with a 4-inch system (probably MBRP) but for now the $125 muffler is giving me what I want.
