: Hitch Camera
sp33d 11-16-2004, 08:35 PM One of my favorite new things at SEMA:

I'm a person that's been wanting a hitch camera forever as I almost always end up hooking up the car trailer by myself. But I didn't want one that had to be mounted and looked out of place. Well, one glance at this at SEMA and I was at the booth.
It's not available yet but will be within a couple months according to the rep. It will be available for our Chev/GMC pickups as a direct replacement for the tailgate handle bezzle.
Picture on the monitor they had there was as good as anything I've seen. Hookup is just like any other rear view camera and it can be used with most if not all monitors.
Pretty cool gadget. I'm definitely getting one when they're available.
WAskier 11-17-2004, 08:23 PM That looks nice, a lot nicer than sticking a camera in the middle of the tailgate IMHO. Did they have any prices for that thing?
Terry 11-17-2004, 08:49 PM Only problem I see is with this one is
when you need to run around town with the
tailgate down.
Might not affect you, but it would me sometimes.
Good luck,
T.
sp33d 11-17-2004, 09:57 PM True, you wouldn't get a good view if the tail gate were down, but it might be fun to watch http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
I wasn't really thinking about it for not squashing the BMW behind me but for the hooking up of a trailer. Plus, I don't find often that I need to see behind me when I'm hauling something.
No pricing as of yet.

Most people I've talked to with these rear-view cameras
want to see the hitch when they're hauling something...
To each his/her own...

sp33d 11-17-2004, 11:30 PM Never talked to a person with a hitch camera that wanted to watch the hitch while towing. All of the rear view cameras (30+) I've installed have been for seeing the hitch while hooking up to a trailer or for making sure they don't run over something while in reverse. In fact, a lot of them only come on when in reverse, for "safety" purposes. This can be overcome easily, but I've never been asked to.
Each to his own of course. I'm just curious to know why you want to view it when towing? For safety I assume? Nothing wrong with it, just wondering.
tbyrne 11-19-2004, 12:57 PM I was talking with my installer about this as I came across the thread. I'm going to have one camera to show what's behind me so I don't run over any more cars (lifted truck) and then one to see the hitch so I don't have to do the jump in and out of the truck them while hooking out. The one in the link above looks like it will give a nice angle to see the hitch. These will feed into a Kenwood monitor up front.
donmiller714 11-22-2004, 10:57 AM working link?

baimpala 11-22-2004, 04:59 PM The other problem with the camera in the tailgate bezel is that if you have a locking tailgate installed, they no workie workie together.
haneym 11-23-2004, 09:16 AM i would love one of those since i almost always hook up trailers by myself. getting out to look is such a pain.
Ragtop 11-23-2004, 11:31 AM try these. work great. cheap.

flivver 11-23-2004, 03:01 PM Ragtop,
Thanks for that! I just ordered a set. I am always hitching alone and it requires many in/outs to get lined up.
baimpala 11-24-2004, 10:13 AM Ragtop, those are cool. A very economical hassle free alternative to hitch cameras. . . but I just thought about it, that's another reason I love the 5th wheel hitch, you can pretty much always see to hitch. . .
