We are looking at a 2001 Chevy 2500 HD Duramax with 112,000 miles on it. We pull a 2 horse, fifth wheel trailer and are lucky to go 1,500 miles a year. I am obviously no diesel expert and am considering this truck as well-maintained diesels "last forever", at least 2-300,000 miles so I am told. We currently have an '89 Ford XTL Lariat with full towing packgae that has run well for 8 years, but the time has come. Can I count on this Chevy to go quite a good many years, and are there any engine quirks that I should be aware of? Thanks, guys

Some have a 200,000 mile warranty on the injectors. I would do a history report on the truck to see if the injectors have been replaced. Other than that it should go past 200k unless it has been abused.

FIRST THINGS FIRST! WELCOME TO OUR SITE & may you get all your questions answered quickly & correctly. The first thing I would do is to write down the vin# & go to the "New Vehicle information setion & then go to "Vin# Check." There you can post the vin. number & ask for a hitory. Some one there will post your history of the truck. I bought a 2002 in 2005 on ebay. I did the same thing & found through the history that the injectors had been replaced at 86K. It had 112K when I bought it & no problems whatsoever since then. Love my truck. Came from AZ & got 18.5 with cruise on mostly 80! All 2001 & 2002 have 200K mile warrenty? Be sure you get that transferred to you at the dealership. Howard

And there is a 7 year limit on the injector time also, not just 200K....

Hopefully the head gaskets have already been replace too. The 01's are notorious for that.

I would look for an 02 - 03 if your looking at getting an LB7 that way you at least have a year or two left on the injector warranty and they might not have as many miles on them.

yup to everything said. 01 had some head gasket probs, 01-04 lb7 had injector issues. not all trucks but enough for gm to back injectors (on the 01-03 model) with 7 yr/200k warranty. like tolliwacker said, the warranty is good for 7 yr so the newer the truck, the more warranty you'll have left.
luck with whatever you do an welcome to DP

I have 105,000 on my 2002, just lost an injector, of course this happened under heavy load towing my toy hauler. I burned up a piston, gouged a cylinder, long story short, $8000 grand later I'm putting in a low mileage motor from an 04, with new injectors.

This so called extended injector warranty isn't all it's cracked up to be. I would at a minimum have the injectors tested if not replaced. You don't want an injector flooding your cylinder while you are towing. Also consider the plugs being tested as well if not replaced. P0380 codes are very common and many times it's the plugs.
