Lookin to see if anyone here has removed the ac compressor for good. Pulled my condenser today to clean the rad and take measurements for an IC. Id like to remove everything else as well: compressor/drier/hoses. Ive read on here of trucks with dual alternators from the factory, does the second go where the ac comp would be? Just looking for options. Dont really want that thing there when its not being used...But I gotta have some kinda pulley there to keep the belt in rotation... Thanks....

You take my angel breath, and we are going to fight.

In fact, I'll drive the truck with no brakes before I drive with inop AC.

As asked above, why do you need more than 100amps from the alt?

You do know you can put a portable generator in the bed if you need to power a small house, right?

The second alt in the dual alt setup does not replace the AC compressor. It sets to the outside of it and slightly down.

Whatcha gonna do with all the a/c stuff if you take it off?

My A/C compressor gave up the ghost a few weeks back. Lots of smoke and rattling. I pulled it off, plugged all the lines and installed a by-pass pulley. Next spring I'll replace the compressor, but right now I have more power, better fuel mileage and less noise. I guess the compressor should have been replaced a while ago! I live in the Canadian Rockies and I still need the A/C on occasion. Just get a by-pass pulley for the time being. At least then you won't have to reinstall the A/C when you realize you want it after all.

Could get one of those stick welders that have a belt driven generator. Would be neat to have one of those.

Sweetness! Ill look into that delete pulley. Thats what I was praying for. Dont need a second alt just looking for something to replace the compressor. I dont use AC at all, installed a sliding rear glass so I got the comfort zone covered. If anybody is in need of some AC parts send me a message. Everything is in working order and blew ice cold!

Im with you on that, in my jimmy I may have used the heater maybe 3 times in it. I was driving it to collage about 60-70 miles a day and in the 4 years maybe i used it 3 times. and I think 2 of those were because I needed defrost only once I can remember getting cold and firing it up. I dont get cold unless the wind is blowing on me but I get hot when its 50deg out and its 87 now.

Michaeljp86, if you don't get cold in Michigan, you're definitely one of "us"!

It got to -15 last winter and I wasnt cold, well unless the air moved then it would freeze you to the bone. Even at that temp if I was in a building or car it didnt bother me. But the heat tears me up, my pickumup has nice cold AC, I cranked it up the other day.

You can come deer hunting with us, we dont shoot any deer just spend alot of money on hunting equipment to show off with. I just sit on a log and eat all day.
