Does anyone still run 'em ? Or has everyone went big on me (18" and up)
I wouldn't mind having a nice set of WELD Scorpio V's in a 16 x 10 with a 305 mud tire.
Know of a place to get Weld's @ a deal ?

Already giving up on a search for 16's...I'm still staying old school with the smaller rims on larger tires...

I got 16 x 10 helos on my truck dont really have a good picture.
They rub on the drivers sider by where you ebrake cable is. Other then that it was some torsion bar turning and some valance trimming and all is well.

I really just wanted someone besides myself to reply to this thread. I like the look of the 20's buy can't find a style that I like.
I've always liked the scorpio V's. Look great in a 16x10. If I had to choose i'd go with the 16.
I'd like to take a look @ a picture Matt Johnson, Thanks

Seems like I read american racing had bought out weld. Is there any truth to this? and if so I wonder if I can even order a set now

The disadvantage with small rims/big tires is weight. The added weight will have adverse effects on your mileage, performance and cause the front end components (ball joints, tie rods and wheel bearings) to wear out faster. A larger rim, especially an alloy one will help offset the weight equation when using larger tires.

Carry on.

I'm still runnin 16s. might step up to 18s for the tires I want (10 ply 37" ATs) but I think big wheels are dumb

I know this, I just like having a lot of side wall for when my truck goes off the pavement...I'd like 20's but don't know how they would hold up to the offroad when my truck goes there...Maybe on the next truck...

Have you checked out the Mazzi Hulks? I have the 20 x 10s on mine and for somebody who has always been against "bling bling", I love the way these wheels look.

I like those but every 8-lug and some 6 lug truck around here has those. Don't get me wrong, yours look good, whole truck is cool. I just want to have something to start the next trend if I go with 20's

I haven't talked to Matt in a while, but this is the style of wheels he has if he still has them. If you like em I can try and get a hold of him so you can work something out with him. Weld Stone Crushers.

Oh yeah I think he has the center caps that bolts over the lug nuts looks better IMO.

Stick with 16"s. IMHO 20" look silly unless you have 38"+ tires. 17"s are cool too,18"+ are expensive.

Not many around here. I think there is 1 more truck. Didn't really know they were that popular. 1 of my favorite rims are the Weld Rockcrushers, but they are also everywhere.

A lot of dealers new and used , are installing them here. all the conversion trucks have them now. I really like 'em, just too many around.

Riley, Matt said his were the sidewinders. If those are his I don't really care for them IMO. I thank you for offering to get ahold of him.

I had 16x10 Welds a couple trucks ago and I liked the way looked but they were hard on front end parts. I switched to 16x8 Gear alloys and I like them. I feel better with a little sidewall between the rim and the ground, at least on a truck.

06SIXSPEEDMANUAL
12-12-2007, 06:20 AM
If ya cranked your bars up till the truck sat level, you'd only probably have to trim the plastic

JD4440
12-12-2007, 06:57 AM
what's the b/s ? If i have to i'll put on a cognito arm but i'd rather just crank. if I can still let the bars down all the way to race i'd put one on

You need to check out fastassdmax's garage. It's not a Reg Cab, but 20x12's and 33's. I cleared my wheels & tires w/ pork chops so I'm sure I could clear his set up...but I hope you're not gonna go back to the green keys. If I had to go w/out any lift, and pull like we like to pull, I would go with 33's, 10's or 12's, and do the front bumper mod I saw in sled pulling. You take out the plastic "spacer", lift the bumper, and trim a little. You said you can trim. You don't see that mod around here, but I'm sure it would help you out. Best of both worlds...run the size you want AND minimal (if any) changes needed to hook to the sled.

JD4440
12-12-2007, 08:25 PM
I don't think I'll need the keys-just a cognito arm. I still have a good inch and a half of lift in the OE keys. I thought about taking that spacer out. as far as I know you have to use the grille from a 1500. And to raise the bumper don't you have to have brackets from a body lift? If it took it to clear 33's w/o a lift I would do it. The brackets and the grille arent more than a lift for sure. Has anyone ever written a diy on that mod? or have it in their garage?
What I really need is to get Jeff Ayres to sell me his wheels/tires Shep

"How to raise GMC bumpers and fit SS bumpers" in the DIY section explains it. Sorry I told ya'll it was in the pulling threads. Jeff's gotta good setup...for a 6.0, not a diesel. If he had our torque he would snap. I know he's reinforced a few things but it would'nt handle 650+ lb/ft. I hope he doesn't break though so don't get me wrong. Can't wait 'till June, but we gotta get all the regulars together to discuss rules in a BAD way!

JD4440
12-12-2007, 10:27 PM
I'd pay a premium for his wheels though. I need to talk to mike about the rules-see if he ever talked to Phil.

With my bars all the way down those rims don't clear the front bumper I have to make short turns, That's part of the reason why I got rid of them

Just a thought, but anyone wanting "winter wheels" should at least look into 16.5x9.75's. Most people want to get rid of them and if you can find some 33" Sport King AT's you would be set for a few winters. I've gotten a combined 110K out of 2 sets of Sport Kings before.
