: BIG Tune on Dyno Run?

Hey guys, just got a quick question for ya. I've heard of guys crankin up some REAL hot tunes on a stocker Ally just for a dyno run 'cause supposedly a dyno is easier on your tranny (not as violent, only WOT in one gear, so no hard shifts, etc.). For example, I heard about a local guy runnin a crazy stack like a PPE Hot +2 tune with a VA 230 makin 510 RWHP on a stock tranny w/ just a Transgo JR. Is this legit, or would it fry just like it would on the road?

If your the kind of guy who likes to take chances, do it. If not, I'd save a little more money. The dyno will still be there when you get the tranny done.

lock it in 4th gear and it may survive but if it shifts it may limp it.

True, those are good points. But is the dyno easier on the tranny? It seems like it would be.

I would not going to tell you to do it. but there are threads upon threads that talk about the dyno not loading the engine enough to build boost.....etc. that being said. how do you roll 510 with no load? i think it is lots of fuel and high egts.

i think it has been shown that the stock cp3 will make 500+ so you are talking air and egts. dyno runs you are probably ok...what 5-6sec pull.

tranny? i have seen them do all kinds of things. hold 4th, downshift, upshift. roll the dice.

If you have a good dyno operator than I think you should be ok. I guess it depends on how big of a tune you use. I had about 425rwhp on a stock tranny on a dyno with no issues. Of coarse my stock alli has held up well. Ive run 500+ rwhp with it without any issues. I think its luck of the draw on what they are capible of holding.

i seem to remember wendy(kats red truck) limping on a dyno with a transgo jr, and a converter. why bother, it still wont be accurate(potential slippage)
