I have been reading for awhile, but this is my first post. The information on this sight is excellent. I own a 2004 Chevy Duramax. This is my first Diesel and I love it. I have put 8,000 miles on it with no problems.
I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer for me.
1) How do you replace the external spin on transmission filter? Can it just be screwed off, or will all of the transmission fluid leak out if it is removed?
2) Has anyone been successful in getting a Dealership to reset your Speedometer after installing 265 size tires on your truck?
3) Can anyone recommend a good place to take my truck for service in the Denver or Colorado Springs area?
Thanks for your help,
MGOOD

first, welcome to the forum! now to answer your questions:
1) just unscrew it.. not much will come out. certainly not all of it!
2) i think the dealer may, as the SRW 3500 comes with 265's i believe
sorry don't know about #3!

I have had good luck with my dealer in Denver, Transwest GMC. They are a truck dealer, so they have large service bays and the techs understand the Duramax. They even sell performace goodies in the parts dept.

Quickie add-ons: Don't lose that little magnet on the spin-on filter. You could purchase a Quad and adjust for tire size plus have a little sumpin special to play with! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif If you find a good dealer that knows wtf they are doing stick with em! Thanks for your replays. I will make my first attempt to change my fuel filter and transmission filter this weekend.
Thanks,

The tranny filter magnet is a little donut shaped magnet that sits on top of the filter where it is threaded to spin on to the transmission. When you drop the old filter, don't forget to pull the magnet off and use it on your new filter.
