Tekonsha Prodigy would be my recommendation. Easy to set-up and operate.

I agree with Bartman. I had the Tekonsha Voyager and it was OK. I now have the Prodigy. The Prodigy stops much smoother. Edited by: CMDMAX

Prodigy is easy to install and works very well. Some folks like other brands, but you will get a lot of responses in favor to the prodigy. About 100 bucks if you look around online.

I love my prodigy, but there has been some talk recently about the
Brakesmart controller. You might want to check them out, too,
just to make sure it won't meet your needs better.

I recently had a Draw-Tite Ultra Intella-Stop controller installed. I asked for the Prodigy but after a little research it looks like the Prodigy and Ultra Intella-Stop and identical. You be the judge.

I don't tow commercially, only my own travel trailer and equipment trailer with a skid steer loader. I had the Tekonsha Voyager in my first truck and now the Prodigy in my new one. To be honest, I find the Prodigy to be of no added value over the Voyager. I guess for a few extra bucks the bells and whistles on the Prodigy are worth it, but for pure braking and minimum fuss, if I did it all over again I would just go with the simpler Voyager. The Prodigy is terrific. I've towed many thousands of
miles with mine pulling little bitty trailers and big
trailers. The thing is a marvel. The Jordan is also
worth considering. It has a cable operated sensor
that applies the trailer brakes in proportion to the
amount the brake peddle is pushed. Finally, the
BrakeSmart is probably the hot set up nowadays, but
at a price about 3.5 times the Prodigy.

OK. I'll be the first. I Like My Jordan.
The Jordan Ultima 2020 Brake controller senses how much tow vehicle brake is applied, with a cable connected to the tow vehicle brake peddle. Push the brake peddle a little and the controller output is a little. Push the brake peddle to the floor and instantly you get max trailer braking. No delays. This controller doesn’t wait for inertia to react on your tow vehicle to sense, or guess, how much brake to apply.
<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
How good do you think the Prodigy will work if the brakes fail on your tow vehicle?
How does the Prodigy work when trying to stop on snow, and ice?

The other nice thing with the Jordan, is that the display is showing Amps, and not Voltage. Amps are a true measure of electricity flowing through the entire brake electrical system. Average electric brakes draw about 3 amps per brake. You can test your brake system to determine maximum brake current. If this current signal ever drops down, you could have a bad connection, or a failing electro-magnet, and know to get it fixed.
Most other controllers display Volts. This is only measuring the volts applied to your braking system, and not if the signal is even getting to your brakes. Some may have a “Continuity” LED to show you have a complete circuit, but I feel the current meter is better.
The cable can easily be disconnected from the brake peddle during long periods when you ‘re not trailering, to reduce needless wear on the cable and potentiometer sensing system. This is not required, but I think it is a good idea.
Some people complain that the Jordan is hard to install. I did not think it was, (my opinion). The Prodigy simply fastens to your dash.

A lot of people own the Prodigy, (I don’t), and swear by them. I’ve never driven with one, so I have no experience with them. To me, the cable is a better way for the controller to sense how much braking is needed for the trailer, so that’s why I bought one.

I couldn't have said it any better myself.

You can purchase the controller from sources less expensively than going directly to the manufacturer.

Braksmart is my first choice, then the Prodigy. The pressure sensor for the Brakesmart is so easy to install, it is a no brainer. The price difference is the only issue. IMO the Brakesmart is worth it.

I agree totally with "Modified". Towing a 36' triple slide GVWR of 15000 lbs and always have plenty of brakes on the steep hills but don't lock up the tires in the RV park. A friend of mine swore by the prodigy untill he tried the Jordon. Can't beat it for smoothness too. Betty

I'll second the Prodigy in a GM product. In a new FCensored D get the Tow Command, superior to anything else we have ever used.

I have 3 jorden controller's in service and the reason for that is if the abs deploys or if you lose your truck brakes you will always have trailer brakes with no pedel delay . Granted the install is a little harder but think about the times you nail the brakes and hit a hole or water and the abs deploys making you lose braking with all that weight behind you pushing losing deaccel which undeploys the trailer brakes extending stopping distance which was the reason you nailed the brakes in the first place . The jorden works far better than any of the other units i have used . Rich

One addtional thing to consider with the Brakesmart, you can buy additional pressure sender/harness kits to use the controller in more than one truck...

Voyager's are terrible IMHO. Never tried a Prodigy, but the whole interia system is iffy.

Don't know about the above ABS comment, but I suppose it could have some effect on an intertia system. Wouldn't effect Brakesmart, unless the brake circuit in which you put the sender had a complete loss of pressure. You'd still have the manual lever though...

My Brakesmart is due via UPS tomorrow, after several weeks of being backordered.

Now all I need is a truck to put it in!

LOL . . . thanks!!!

I supposed I should have guessed though. There's probably a "porkrinds.com" and a "bring me a beer next time you come from the kitchen.com" somewhere too nowadays. Makes me feel old :(

Had a drawtite II controller...upgraded to the BrakeSmart controller. No comparison and will never go back. You've spent over $35k for your truck, why go cheap on a controller that can save you and your families life!

No question...BrakeSmart!

I just recently purchased the Prodigy. The cheapest place I found was http://www.rvwholesalers.com. They have the controller for $99.99, and the vehicle specific wiring harness for $11.25. I didn't buy the wiring harness. I opted to just solder the harness that came with the truck to the wiring on the controller. I have used many different controllers and this Prodigy is the smoothest controller I have ever used.
