Is it me, or is the stock tailgate bezel just the biggest piece of crap ever?



I had just put in a PE Powergate, and am so surprised that the bezel is
only attached by double sided tape, WTF?! We are paying good money for
our trucks and this is all they have to offer?



Any solutions or ideas to make sure that the tailgate cannot be
tampered with? such as maybe a bracket that moved/slid from the inside
of the truck bed so that it cannot be opened at all? or something that
would hold the bracket securely using one of the existing bolts?



I am just amazed at how they still havent included keyed locks on the
tailgate as Nissan/Ford has, granted the avalanche has one, so why not
continue it?

Actually it is also held on by 4 tabs, 2 top and 2 bottom.

I'll second that. Just removed mine last week. There is a foam piece on each side with no adhesive to keep it from rattling.

Actually Sollly, on my 04 LLY it did have adhesive. This is however the first one I have ever seen with adhesive.

Hmm, finally got a hold of the cap again, and it seems that the two
prongs or tabs that go on to the bottom were sheared off very cleanly,
wonder how the hell that happend, all I know is that it wasnt me. Guess
its off to buy a new one, $16-22 for that pos..

Had my handle painted to match and then broke the tabs putting it on, lil trickey. painted a second one and no tabs on the bottom.. Third one wont even touch the tailgate.. hmmmm

Those tabs are so flimsy, you can use harsh language to break 'em. . . When I put the lock on my tailgate, I was pretty careful taking off the stock one and still broke one of them. . . WTF?

What's the process of replacing the current tailgate bezel/handle? does the bezel come off first? pry with screw driver? don't want screw this up as I waited 3 weeks for my painted ones :)
