most likely you are leaking fuel into the crankcase.. perhaps its time for new injectors.

Injector time!! They (all eight) should be replaced free under warranty if you have under 100k miles I believe? Good luck.

It's 7/200k on injectors on the 01/02 as GM has extended the warranty coverage.

Although oil dilution isn't desired, the Duramax seems to be able to with stand the abuse short term as now one has come forward yet and cried catastrophic failure.

Good Luck

Mine just blew an injector (01, 93K miles). Does the warranty cover a rental for the 5 week wait for injectors?

MFendley,
Good Luck. Although they appear to be standing behind the warranty repair fully, they are definitely not coming to the plate in regards to rental reimbursement. I have been driving my truck since they diagnosed my injectors as being bad. That was 4 weeks ago. Got a call from GM Friday, Injectors will be here this coming week. If you are not filling crankcase with fuel just drive it. I check my oil every couple of days.

If I had it had failed I was going to buy a $500 junker and drive it. Cheaper than a rental and then submit it to the reclaim and get a tax write off.

Best Regards

My failure must be more catastrophic than some of the others. When mine went, it is solid white smoke (too thick to see through), a top speed of 15 mph, and my fuel tank went from 3/8 of a tank to below empty in just over a mile. There's no driving this until the injectors are replaced!

Absolutly - Injectors, mine was also catostropic. Truck was down for 52 days. I seriosly doubt GM will cover a rental. However, the dealer may try to help you out. My dealer's tech screwed things up a little and it took a little longer than expected. Make sure the tech has done the job before!

Not sure on the older trucks, but now GM is supplying rentals for the time the truck is down. Mine is an 03 and I had a loaner for 4 weeks.

See if you can get a used vehicle off their lot to use as a loaner. Maybe they have a demonstrator you could use.

Well mine 230 miles from home.. messed up my Turkey day.. had to cancel a hunter.. and Chevy wouldnt get me a rental. Now cust assist says I can "apply" for reimbursment if I get a rental.. wish they would have told me that last Thursday... but still wont guarantee they will pay for it...

Anyway.. mine is an 02 with 83k miles and eta for injectors is less than a week. we'll see..

Not fun no matter what..

The fuel in to oil will start to "wash" the oil away from the bearings and other vital parts of the engine. We have actually towed trucks in for this. I'm sure you can drive it to the dealership, but if it is that noticeable on the dipstick I wouldn't wait.

Well mine put fuel in the oil 3 different times as injectors let loose. Each time I had an injector issue the oil pressure was a little less after repair. GM continued to claim it wouldnt hurt the motor. Well the 3rd time oil pressure had decreased to 25lbs. It was at this time the motor gave up for good. Diesel in oil is not good,as another in this tread noted, it does "wash" the oil & destroys the bearings. New motor had to be installed by me as warranty was gone. I wish now that I had insisted the first time I noticed the oil pressure declining so dramatically after each fix that I had insisted on a new motor .
