: Pics of New TOYO tirew with HUMMER WHEELS
davzog 08-31-2007, 05:24 AM I finally got my 265x70x17 Toyo Open Country A/Ts mounted on the Hummer chrome wheels...
I could not decide if the white letters should go in or out. I really thought I would have them mounted IN, and at the last second changed my mind...not sure I did the right thing.
I was originally concerned that the increased size (a little over an inch in height and width) would goof up the ride, brakes, speedo, etc., but so far (150 miles) I cannot tell any difference.
I suspect I'll lose 1-2 mpg due to the increased unsprung weight but will have to see...
Still not sure what to do about center caps....ugh!!!
XF350 08-31-2007, 07:00 AM Looks great. When I went to 265's and 17x8 wheels I lost 1 to 1-1/2 MPG. Well worth it. They look and ride alot better. You wont be sorry getting rid of the stockers.
davzog 08-31-2007, 07:03 AM I agree...it seems that with 50 psi the truck rides a lot smoother than it did with the smaller tires at 45 psi...I would have expected the opposite...
flyin99 08-31-2007, 09:48 AM I like it! I was like you.................just wasn't sure which way to do the white letters. I think they look great out though.

So I assume you went with a spacer in the back so that the hummer center caps would fit? If so, what size spacer did you go with? I bought H2 wheels as well, just haven't mounted them yet.
davzog 08-31-2007, 01:48 PM Actually, I opted NOT to go with a spacer...I was too afraid of the potential disaster when pulling a 5th wheel.
I did a lot of research and could not find any spacers where the lug bolts were not just PRESSED into the spacer....seems like they could pull loose or fall out. Unlikely, I know but I fell that it COULD happen.
So, I have the H@ caps on the frnt for now, but found a set of NBS caps on ebay...I had the steel wheels and my original caps would not fit without grinding.
So, I will be running the NBS Silverado caps as soon as I get them...
BigMoose153 08-31-2007, 02:06 PM yeah, that's where I'm at as well. Not 100% on using a spacer, i had always planned on going with my stock center caps anyway but saw the pics and noticed you were using the H2 caps so was curious.
Truck looks great!!!
eng158 08-31-2007, 02:15 PM looks awesome. i really like those toyo's.
pmikey 09-01-2007, 07:50 AM Tire and wheel combo looks great.
FWIW: I've been running the H2's with 2" spacers for a while now without any issues. I tow 15K occasionally and go off road almost every weekend in the mountains of WV. I was having a hard time deciding if it was worth the risk of a spacer failure just so I could use the H2 center caps, which I think look a lot better than the PYO caps (IMO). So much so that I was going to buy a set of wheels and tires from a local 4 x 4 shop and sell the H2's. But, after talking to the owner, (whom I've known for 15 years and he always and straight shooter), about my concerns with towing using the spacers, he said as much as he'd like to sell me a new set of wheels and tires, as long as they were the solid billeted aluminum spacers that my concerns were unjustified. He only sells the solid billeted aluminum spacers and in 20 years of doing everything you can think of to a 4 x 4 truck he said he's never seen or heard of a solid aluminum spacer failure. That's good enough for me.
strawboss 09-01-2007, 08:49 AM never did like hummer rims but they look good on there
davzog 09-01-2007, 10:26 AM Hey PMIKEY...
I have heard many positive stories regarding the spacers, and I really do prefer the Hummer Caps, but I just can't bring myself to do the deed...
I am super glad you have never had a problem, and I may go that way eventually. If I ever sell the 5th wheel there is no doubt that the Hummer caps go on with spacers...
Thanks for the reply
Dave
