got 550 miles on the HD now. when i got it from the dealer it was very quiet. now its gettin louder. went from soudin like a new cummins to a 6.5'er (not really) is that normal for it to get a little louder?

now i know what all the fuss is about.ive never owned a diesel and wanted one for about 5 years.

how long should i wait before i tow? maybe 5,000lbs. 2,000 miles?

I waited 500 miles before towing and my truck got quieter after towing a few thousand miles it.And it might have gotten louder do to the go pedal getting pressed harder have fun and enjoy.

Seems like mine is getting quieter the more I drive it. Although it's my first diesel so maybe i'm just going deaf to the diesel sounds? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif

I was hooked up 11 hours after I signed the papers, but it was a light empty trailer going to get some cows...500 miles is recommended I think...

Could be from the computer "learning" how to best suit itself to your driving style.

Keep in mind that your pilot injection cuts out at about 2500 RPM causing the engine to become louder.

thanks for all the info. didnt know that about the pilot thing.

i havent gone wide open yet. only 3/4 throttle to about 2500 rpm. i meant it was louder all the time. idle and riding around.guess thats why im gettin 17.9 mpg

I would put about 400-500 miles on it and then start towing. Seems the consensus is that towing has helped about everyones truck get better ! Enjoy...
