: High idle for a Medium Duty??
Mylash 11-15-2004, 01:00 AM I am interested in doing something to enable the truck to idle at about
1100 rpm whenever I feel the need. There is no PTO option on this
truck, so the method covered for the 05 Duramax in the pickup forums
would not work with my truck. Before I start pulling things apart, and
scratching my head too much, does anyone have any ideas on how to
achieve a high idle, in any temperature, in a Kodiak?

Max Power 11-15-2004, 11:52 AM I am pretty sure you could add the OEM PTO Controller and it would work. You could do it the same way we do on the light dutys except that I am pretty sure it will already have the wiring run from the ecm into the cab.
Coaster Chaser 11-16-2004, 08:17 PM Go to www.gmupfitter.com (http://www.gmupfitter.com) and you should find it in the index most wire harness are all the same you should be ok. Thats why I went shopping for my 4500 it is loaded with more goods than I would have orded myself. It was a Chevy dealer goof up they needed 1 4500 the office hit the keyboard or mose to fast and got 3 trucks the same.I paid less than half the sticker price of $42,000.00 I called GM and the girl told of this site and also told of the GM service center in my area as a bounus. Have fun on GMupfitter over 300 pages of pdf files to look at.

Mylash 11-30-2004, 10:54 PM I went to a local township GM dealership today, not the place I bought the truck from, but one in the open countryside of Fayette County, TN. I needed an oil change, and all my equipment is 600 miles away, in Indiana, so I bit the bullet, and went to the dealer. They wanted to put Shell Rotella oil, or Mobil one synthetic - needless to say, I went with the synthetic. Whilst I was there, I asked about the high idle function, that my truck came without, and was told that the service manager would call around and find out about it. I also asked about getting some Kodiak badges for the truck - it is a Kodiak, so why did Chevrolet not put a badge on it saying so???? Apparently they stopped doing that in 1997. Anyhow, I have ordered two Kodiak, Diesel Power badges to make the truck look better..
About the High Idle.. ALL you have to do, with any 2004½ on Medium Duty, is buy the switch, and get a reflash. It is going to cost me about $50 to get the GM high idle in my truck. :) :) :) and another $50 to get the Kodiak badges for it. They answered my warranty question also. I have a 2 year bumper to bumper, unlimited mileage, 100010 mile 2year engine, and 200010 mile 4 year service contract. So today was a pretty good day.. Until I tried to turn around in the driveway of my old house.. I got completely stuck in mud, and can't get towed out until the morning.. :( My tractor is on a trailer, that I can't unload unless a truck is attached to it, because it lifts up.. My other trucks are in Indiana, and my F450 is dead in the yard, so I had to call the tow company. :( But at least I can get a high idle, without having to risk messing anything up.

Mylash 12-13-2004, 10:49 PM The High Idle is in, and operating.. Total cost $42 parts, $51 labor.. It works great, off the cruise controls...
That made a happy me...

Max Power 12-14-2004, 12:14 AM It's nice to see they didn't screw you too bad.
Mylash 12-14-2004, 12:22 AM I really like this dealership - it is way out in the country, on hwy 64, Fayette county, TN. I may even bring the truck down from Indiana to get it worked on by them, should it need it - unless I find a good one up there..

racer2 02-05-2005, 06:56 PM For the 2003 duramax models, all you have to do is go to gm dealer and order PTO switch GM part# 88961083 and plug it in. Cost is around $20.00. It fits in the switch panel and the plug for it is already there. turn it on and hit the crusie and the fast idle works great. I just installed it on minehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif
I hope this helps someone.

Mylash I saw those on a truck today and your right. They just look good. Do you have a part number and did you get them on yet?

Mylash 02-12-2005, 10:33 PM Just picked them up this weekend, I will post the part number in the morning, when I get them out of the truck to put 'em on.. They will need cosmetic surgery :) they have CAT diesel tagged onto the bottom of them, so it will need cutting off. Duramax will stick on below the badge and cover up any roughness. I have a Dremel tool that does that job perfectly.

shadow 02-13-2005, 02:04 PM The badge I saw was pretty big and looked great. Like to get a pic if I could. Just don't like those stickers that come with the truck. Used a hair dryer to heat them up, was real careful and peeled them off. Any glue that was left on the truck was removed with WD-40 and a rag. The badges you got are chrome right?
