: Diablo Sport Questions????
Pro400exc 11-14-2004, 05:20 PM Hey Guys,
I just bought the Diablo Sport from Summit...and I have a few questions...
Ok you say once you load it..its locked into the system? But i can switch from the Economy setting to Towing when i hook up to a trailer?
Alos, if i mainly use the 80hp setting will a EGT and Boost gauge be needed right away or can i wait a lil for those? And lastly on the 120hp setting if i just use that a lil bit maybe to show friends will i limp the tranny? I mean if i use the 120hp settin i'll just go wot couple times but nothing too major...Like from a dead stop?
Also w/ the 80hp setting if i am always dippin into the throttle will that limp the tranny?
Thanks Guys,Joe.
P.S. I will be straight piping it ina few days so will that help w/ egt's?
hdd-max 11-14-2004, 06:10 PM IMHO i dont think u need gauges just driving around with any of the tunes.....but if you have the 80 hp tune and u r towing any kinda weight u would want them for sure. The only time i limped mine was with the 120 and weight in the back of my truck on the 4-5 shift...I dont think you'll limp with the 80 hp tune unless your trans is weak or you are towing alot of weight.....Just my opinion though, I'm sure others will chime in.....What they mean by locked is you cant take the tune off your truck then go and put in on your buddies you can only use it on your truck after the first time u use it...But u can send it back and they will unlock it for $75 if you decide to sell it later.
Jim659 11-14-2004, 06:35 PM Get guages. It sounds like you want to show off a little for your friends, nothing wrong with that but after you get the fever you'll be hittin' that throttle hard without even thinking about it. The Predator runs hot to begin with so do your self and your truck a favor and watch those EGTs.
BlueDMax 11-14-2004, 06:43 PM Yes guages! Even set at the lowest setting (40HP) a romp up to 60mph can send EGT up to 1100 without a problem.
White Duramax 11-14-2004, 08:52 PM Strait piping it will help some with egts, and you will want to get on it more to hear the exhaust. I would turn it down to the 40hp when towing, until you get gauges.
WanaDmxsub 11-14-2004, 11:25 PM It's not hard to get to 1600 deg's in the 85 tunehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif (unloaded)
hdd-max 11-14-2004, 11:30 PM when u r on it or just driving? short burst I thought wouldnt hurt it its just the sustained high temps that hurt things am i wrong? I seen where mtomac said he hits 2000 in 1/4 and pullin and he has alot of runs on his beast.

Yikes, and how did you find that out? With only an 85 tune that seems pretty high. . . .
Pro400exc 11-15-2004, 09:17 AM Ok Guys,
THanks for all the help...
So lets say i have it in the 120 or 80 setting and stomp on it from a stand still hit maybe 70mph then take it easy would that give it time to cool down the egt's?
Yes i know gauges are needed..Summit wants i think $150 for a 0-1,600 egt gauge...sound fair?
Thanks
dmaxfan 11-15-2004, 10:06 AM Here is the place where I got my gauges:

Good Luck!!!
Mark Craig 11-15-2004, 10:41 AM Pro400exc,
Take a look at our site www.dieselperformanceparts.com (http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com) you'll find a lot of guages for less than that plus we itmeslike a pre wired gauge installation harness that really makes the gauge install simple, plus you don't make 5 runs to the hardware store for that one little odd item you need. We also GUARANTEE all of our prices to be the best.
Mark @ DPPI
dmaxfan 11-15-2004, 10:44 AM I would call Mark, because I had my gauges installed by someone else due to bad directions.

SPA guages will save the highs so you can go back and see what you just didhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif
Boost on top, egt on the bottom. Sensor is in the exhaust manifold. (Hoot location)

it doesnt really work like that - high egt's for an extended period is
a bad thing. yes, when you let off they will go down, but the
high egt's during WOT runs is what you need to watch, regardless of
when youre stopping the run
Diesel Power 11-16-2004, 01:14 AM i would get gauges- the predator always run on the HOT side given the power it puts down... at least mine always did...
IdahoRob 11-16-2004, 10:07 AM Please excuse my ignorance on the topic, but what are problems encounted with high exhaust temps.
Thanks, Rob

Less turbo life.
baimpala 11-16-2004, 07:27 PM WanaDmxsub,
Pretty hot for just an 85 tune. . . They aren't kidding when they say the Predator runs hot. . .What were you doing?
Thanks,
Dennis

Weeellllll...AAAAhhh.....I was....Ok i'll admit to it...I was trying to see how high it would go on a WOT run from a dead stop. Outside air temp was around 90deg. A/C was on and I backed out of it around 70mph. Just wanted to seehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif. Kind of scary, I can remember doing the samething and worse when I had the 120 tune loaded.
baimpala 11-17-2004, 08:47 AM Well, I guess that might do it, then. . . Still seems high, but I guess the 90 degree outside temp had a little to do with it. Now that it's colder, have you done the same test? Just curious. Seems like I've done that with the juice on just the 75 Hp setting and I have trouble hitting 1250. . .
Thanks,
Dennis
svpdiesel 11-17-2004, 02:48 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/svpdiesel/2004-11-17_115800_gaugezoom.jpgI just received a predator, and noticed that it adds about 200 deg to
the egt when stacked with the juice set at 90. Previously, I saw maybe
1450 max egt, and with the pred. on 65, I can hit 1600-1700 pretty
easily. Stacked, it also makes the throttle pretty touchy, and smokes
like a train. I would have taken the pred. tune out, but I noticed what
seems like a signifigant improvement in fuel mileage- I'm going to run
a couple of tanks and see if it was a fluke. I also have a JK 4"
exhaust, no cat.
I have a SPA gauge mounted in the dash- here is a pic. OK pic is too big. I'll try and crop it.

jesshd 11-18-2004, 01:53 PM My Predator has alwys run very WARM. Not sure about the newest version, I have an LB7 that is about 2 years old. My Autometer gauge pegs at 1600 very easily on anything other than the lowest setting. Only use it as a scan tool now, and just run the Juice/Attitude combo on 2 most of the time. Stacking them will give you lots of nice black smoke.

tbone1227 11-18-2004, 02:17 PM Hey Syp - hows that setup run when stacked ? driveability, performance, any problems, etc ... thanks

tbone1227 11-18-2004, 02:27 PM thats what id like to know although i dont think i will do it as it sounds like the programming wont be super compatible with the LLY in regards to stacking these 2, but who knows ?? the LLY edge stacks better with a timing tuner since the edge has no timing in it

svpdiesel 11-18-2004, 03:34 PM t-bone, I've tried all 4 tunes that come with the Predator, stacked on
a std juice set at level 4 (90hp). They all work without any major
issues. I noticed the shifts are sloppier at light throttle, harder at
WOT. Pedal is very touchy, hard to drive in town. I ended up driving in
T/H mode just to be able to control the throttle better. Tons of smoke.
There is a definite increase in power, and that's fun, but I still have
stock trans, and Kennedy says it'll go limp if I run stacked above the
juice at 90hp. I ran all the tunes,(40,65,85,120) never limped, but the
4-5 shift was very scary- hard shudder when it went into 5. So, it's
now got the 65 pred. tune in, with the juice, and I don't jump on it in
5th. Just an easy roll-on. I mostly wanted to see if the mileage
increase sticks around. I got the pred. for scanning and tire/speed
limit functions, but could NOT resist trying out the power increases.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
I haven't tried the predator without the juice. If the mileage stays
higher than it was without the pred65 tune, I'll have to figure out how
to make it all work together. The touchy pedal and shifting issues are
annoying.
Unfortunately, I can't say how this combo will work on an LLY. Ask JK.
Steve
tbone1227 11-18-2004, 03:41 PM Thanks Syp - im going to have a chance to try this combo out on the LLY and will post some feedback, my thoughts are that it wont be a great stack combo because of the programming but we shall see

svpdiesel 11-18-2004, 03:58 PM Tbone- have fun! Your trans should handle it- Interesting to see how it compares with the edge/pup stack.

Pro400exc 11-19-2004, 10:47 AM Wow....I love the extra power now and the ability to hit 120mph..its kinda scary though,lol....
I just run it on the 65 setting until i get str8 piped and guages...(could i use 4in flex pipe to str8 pipe it?)
Also i have a concern...When i had it on the 85hp setting it shifted funny..It shifted but the tach stayed high then dropped a lil..but this was only under wot...could my trans be slipping?
I can't wait to try 120setting some day...
tbone1227 11-19-2004, 10:52 AM JK - did you get a chance to try the predator with edge stacked ?
BlueCrew 04 D/A SB GMC 11-20-2004, 01:36 PM How much does the predator smoke in the different power levels?
You can now get it vin unlocked right?;)
Haven't seen any bad reports on the new predator yet, and sounds like it runs pretty smooth, kind of thinking about buying one since its taking so long for TTS to release the PL3, kind of losing some patients waiting I guess, Oh well the predator so far sounds like it will perform like I want.
Another question on stacking...
I am used to the J/A combo and just ordered the predator.
For a stock tranny i keep it less than '4 ' on the Juice for its protection.
My QUESTION is what combo of levels can I stack them at to be about equal, so i can spare the tranny??
Also, if (i.e. J/A @ 2 and TOW tune) is the same...do I gain or lose anything...like smoke, turbo lag.?
WanaDmxsub 02-19-2005, 12:17 AM Predator for the LB7?
120 tune heavy smoke.
85 tune smoke at WOT
65 "I think I can see some smoke"
40 tune "smoke, what smoke?"
Still VIN locked.
