I have a 03 2500HD D/A that I bought about 6mo ago. It has a Banks stinger system on it with the oil and gauze air filter and from reading this site I see that this is not the best type of filter for this truck. I see that afe and amsoil make a paper filter that can replace the oil filter. Has anyone here done this? is it a better option than the oiled gauze filter? Does anyone have an opinion of the two and which would be better? I love this truck and want to take the best care of it that I can afford. Everyones opinion welcome. Thanks.

Some people never have problems with the oiled intake systems. I ran an AFE intake system on my 04 LLY and never had a problem with anything. Some trucks seem more sensative then others. If your system works for you, I'd leave it be.

All I know is the AMSOIL filter. Very good product and should have one to fit. Better holding capacity and efficiency with the same air restriction as the oiled gauze. They are cleanable and good for 100,000 or 4 years for onroad use..
That's all I know:)

I have heard alot of good things about AEM and I almost bought one. I personally went with Banks, they seem to be a little more conservative/or on the safe side. I don't want to tear my towing rig all up with a bunch a mods. I really dig that Banks intake and it has exceeded my expectations.

I have used oiled filters on my last 3 trucks and have not had any problems at all. I use AIRAID filters on both of my vehicles. The nice thing about the AIRAID filters is that they feature a layer called the SythaFlow layer which stops any kind of oil getting by it and enables the filter to filtrate down to 2 microns. Just my .02...

aem down to 1 micron higher dust holding capacity and simple to clean takes about 20 minutes.
