First let me thank all of you who replyed so quickly to my posting, Thankyou for your input.

Ok, i'm starting to understand why everytime i goto the dealership, i come out of there poor.
Just spent the last two days playing under the hood of my van, Fun--wow---NOT!!...
However, if nothing else comes of this, at least i'm getting better at taking it apart and putting it back together.

Now then, I managed to get the injection pump alined, and last night (sunday) it started right off first try on the key, engine was cold. Deciding to replace a missing bolt from the thermostat housing, I once again tore it all down. Replaced the gaskets and the bolt, no coolant leaks. Retrained the computer for the start up sequence, and it started ok but not right away. Engine was cold.

Now when the engine is hot, it seems to take longer to start it again. Roughly 10 to 14 secs.

Any ideas guys....?

A scanner like an Mt2500 or the techII would be best, but if I had to set the timing with nothing, I would bring he pump as close to straight up and down as possible and tighten it.Then turn the engine over and let it idle warm for a minuite. Get a flashlight and look at the stepper foot on the passside of the pump. It should be in a possition where it is in all but 1/4 of it's travel and holding steady, no up and down. The -1.5 to -2.0* tdc is 1-1 1/2mm to the driver'side of the middle of the pumps travel. once you have it where it seems the stepper is in the right position and the pump slightly advanced, tighten it and do the key on for 1 min. key of 30 sec restart tdc learn. It should stumble on restart and find a new range where you set it.

If you lost one of the three inside bolts to the gear trane you need to find it. The Injection Pump has a pin which lines up through one of the holes in the timing gear. If this broke off you need to find this as well. Who was the last one to do any injection pump work on the truck?

Oh.. I see you lost it internally, the bolts through the oil fill. It isn't easy to get that part right. The hole the pin goes in isn't the only place it can slip into but ou can't bolt all three bolts till it's in right.

The last place to do work on the pump was the dealership and that was to replace a key on the camshaft that drives the pump.

Uh no not the bolts through the oil fill, the bolt i'm talking about are the mounting bols on the outside of the pump,,the ones that fasten it to the motor.

I would think it's reasonable to ask them to reset tdc offset for you.

By all means stick it back to the dealer on this one. It takes as you well see about an hour or two to get to disassemble and even see those dumb nuts to begin with.

The bottom of the invoice should read something to the tune of zero dollars.
