Was wondering if anyone else is having this problem.

When I put the key in with Remote # 1 the DIC sometimes reads it as Remote #2. So I have to hit the Number 1 button on the door to get to my seat position and radio presets. Its been back to the dealer twice for this and they keep reprogramming it but it only works for a little bit then starts to act up again. Any suggestions out there? I see that they did away with this function on the 05's but my dealer states he don't know what else to do about it. I figure its a function I paid for so I should have it right!!!

Do you have the settings on key or remote? I have the same problem if the setting is in the remote and I use my wifes key.

Since the key is a plain jane key, the computer seems to go by the
remote. If the key is used to open door the computer goes with the last
remote number used.

Supposedly there is a transponder in the key itself. This is from Helms, so it must be true!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

Go in and set the control on where you have to hit the button on the door. In my case it is always on mine (1) but once in a while the wife (2) will drive it. Good luck

Neighbor had the same problem, he said they had the wrong keys on the wrong remotes. Switched and no problems.

I really don't believe it is in the key, but in the remote. I've had problems with it too on my 2003. The problem I usually have is that my wife gets to the truck first at night and uses remote # 2 to unlock it and let herself in. Then I get in the the seat pinches me under the steering wheel. So after getting pinched a couple of times, I just hit the unlock button from remote # 1 as I come up to the vehicle. This seems to have solved my problem.

driver 1 or 2 is in the remote, not the key to get it to work as you want, you need to unlock the door with the remote

Believe what you want:

Well if there is a tranponder in the key I don't have one. I use a plain jane
copy and never have a problem. Use remote #1 and it is identified had
Driver #1 on the DIC. Same for the other remote. Keys seem to have no
bearing.

There is a transponder in the key. It is used with the theft
deterrent system. If you don't use the theft deterrent system, it
doesn't matter. I misread the problem above. The remote
keyless entry system IS the only controlling factor on which driver is
selected. If remote #2 is used to unlock the doors, and then you
use the key from remote #1, then you will be recognized as driver #2
until you unlock or do something with remote #1. . . Sorry for the
confusion.

What is the theft deterrant system? I have the factory alarm and still have
no problem starting the truck with a plain copy of the key.

There is a transponder in the key.

No there is NOT a transponder in the key. There is also not a pickup coil in the ignition switch to pick up a transponder even if there was a transponder in the key.

The information in the Helms manual is wrong. Only GM's Passkey 3 uses a transponder. Passlock II which is in our trucks does not sure a transponder.

So only the remote will allow control of drivers 1 and 2.

There are 2 different theft detterant systems in our trucks. There is a content theft detterany system that is activated when you lock the doors with the power locks or the keyless entry. If someone were to break a window and open a door the alarm would honk the horn and flash the lights.

The second is called paslock II. It uses a hall effect sensor that reads the cut of the key in the lock cylinder to determine if it is the correct key. (Proper cut) If someone were to hotwire or force the ignition switch on it would not allow the truck to start because it didn't get the correct reading from the key.

Helms is actually ambiguous on the matter. In the previously
posted picture, it clearly indicates a transponder is present, and
there are no other descriptions of any other type or kind of key.
In the Theft Deterrent section, however, it says:

"Replacing Keys:

The ignition lock cylinder and keys do not contain any coded electronic
components. The lock cylinder housing contains the coded
electronic components. Changing an ignition lock cylinder or
adding a key is a purely mechanical process which does not affect the
vehicle theft deterrent system. To add a key, simply cut a new
key to match the existing one. To change the lock cylinder,
simply replace the existing lock cylinder with one of the same type."

Weirdhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif Oh, well, I learn 37.5 new things on this truck every day.

Thanks,

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think my problem is solved. When I'm at work I sometimes leave my keys in the truck and lock the doors with remote #2 then unlock with #2 and then start with my keys that were left in the truck with remote #1. Sounds like problem solved but I will make sure. Keep this between us though, I'm not admitting to the dealer that I was so stupid!!! LOL

I have an 05 and the dealer couldn't get the #1 and #2 remotes to work
the day we bought it. When I took it back in later that week for
them to fix it, the service manager said they didn't have that option
in the 05's. Does anyone know if that is correct?? I have
been using the 1 and 2 buttons on the door to adjust, which is fine
except when you forget to push it before you start driving. It
seems kind of goofy to me to have #1 and #2 remotes if you cant enable
to memory on the truck....

Thanks,

D.

My 05 doesn't seem to have the Driver 1 and 2 function either. I was wondering if my truck had it or not. I do have the driver 1 and 2 on the door just nothing with the remotes. Does somebody know what is going on with these?

I got a flyer in the mail from GMC and in it it did state thata they did away with this option on the 05's. You have to hit the button on the door to get everything. Sounds like an option that didn't work the way they wanted it too.
