i ve got an 82 with the c-code, right now it has 31's and 3.42's, but i am ready to lift it. i have the lift and i have 3/4 ton axles with 4.10 gears, are 35's too much tire for this combo? according to gearing calculators, the 35's with 4.10's are a tad lower (numerically higher) than what i'm running right now. i may tow a small 2-place quad trailer, but not very often. opinions? thanks guys

35s with 4.10s would be good towing and low speed (like offroading). you should be around 2600rpm at 65mph, which gives you around 1000rpm to the dead line (red line)...enough to actually pass someone if you needed :D

i would actually regear to 3.73 if i wasn't towing often; this will put you at around 2300rpm at 65...much nicer on the highway

you didn't say if you had the th400 or 700r4, the 700r4 will lower those rpm numbers too.

My 83 K5 had 3.08 gears and 35's before I swapped to 1-ton axles. I towed two quads from IN to CT, (1000mi), before the axle swap and had no problems. 4.10's should make it even easier.

depends on which tranny you have and if you drive on the highway alot. if you have the 700r4 and drive on the highway i'd go with 4.10's. if you have the th400 i'd go with 3.73. if you rarely go on the highway, 4.10's.

i have the 700r4, and will do a lot of highway driving, i also plan on doing a 2.5" exhaust, and turnin up the IP, for a little more power.

i've got an '85 with 4.10s and 33's, the truck is just itchin for more tire.

i'm looking for a cheap lift so i can slide a set of 35s underneath it, and i think it'll handle it just fine. with your 3.01 first gear you shouldn't have any problems, i wouldn't think

well, i picked up some 35x12.5x17 BFG mudders with 80% tread left , on 17" alum. rims for 400, so i'm all ready to get the lift on, thanks guys, BTW does anyone sell a universal 2.5" exhaust for a truck like this? can i exit the exhaust in front of the rear wheels legally?, thanks again

a local shop can do the exhaust for probably the same price or cheaper than ordering a kit and having it shipped...it's not like your going 5" or anything.

i don't know that it would be "illegal" to exit the exhaust before the rear wheels in your area or not, you need to check your local laws. i do know you will not gain much from it though, except noise. the stock pipes are plenty big for a non modded fuel/air system. however, gm kinked the pipe in a few spots (crushed is actually a better word) to create some back pressure to help with engine braking...you don't need this. just replace the kinked section of stock pipe and open up the intake. maybe do some hummer headers to open it up a bit more and crank up the ip...then you wont care what gears you have

My daughters blazer has 35's with 4.10's and a 700r4 and it pulls great. Just plan on down shifting for the hills.
