: my first mustang dyno run (liked it)

stoped by GCL in edmonton today and gave my first dyno run on their mustang md 750, we spun on the rollers the first time, but after tieing down a little harder, no problems after that, we had a tech 2 and tried with tranny locked in forth and then tried 5th, seen no difference, as for the correction factor dyno operator(jason) said it was at a 1.0 as they do not have the opthional weater stn, and was told by mustang that this will workhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif , i had a few different boxes with different stacks, for the runs done, i had received the so called bullydog 210 power pup the morning before and tried to use it in the stacks, but soon found out that it was the same as the 155 power pup, piss offhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif as he promised it would be the 210(thanks justin), i did the runs on winter diesel(mixed with number 1 desiel) which probally robbed some hp and torque i was told, i threw some standdyne in just prior to the first run,i did video of all runs on avi. and did see after, a few extra hp and tq that were not shown as max hp, must be the software program,

all turned out great and will do againhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif as for the results

stock hp 248.3hp@454tq

powerpup 155 made 390.4hp@779tq

jk 170/210va made 388.6hp@771tq on the 170hp setting

jk 170/210va made 464.4hp@937tq on the 210hp setting

jk 170 stacked with 155 power pup made 491.2hp@980tq

jk 210 stacked with 155power pup made 487.3hp@969tq most smoke

as for the 210 power pup, they had sent the wrong one, so it was the exact same almost as the 155

at the end jason wanted to try a few manuel load pulls on the dyno,

155 stacked with 170va made 503hp@996tq

155stacked with 210va made 488hp@944tq

i wll say i did have over reving cutout issues with the big va stacked but by itself it does around the 215 on my truck, i have graphs of all the runs and when back home i will post,

looking for comments if the correction factor was right or wrong, ambient temp of 67f and what would winter diesel due to the hp and tq numbers, he did say i had the largest numbers to date for the dyno,http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif and did have another duramax make the same hp but needed pane and nitrous to get it their, and with a lot lower tq http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

thanks fred

Not sure about the correction factor......but the numbers seem to fall in line with all the other load type dynos......and look very respectable too if I might add. Seems the Power Pup and JK 200+ looks to be a pretty lethal combination dependiing on how the curves look...you need the pup for the speed limiter anyway.

Mustang dynos will typically report about 8-10% lower HP numbers than the Dynojets will. They do provide a more "real world" view of what the performance is in general and more so for the FI setups.

In the end though, the dynos are just tuning tool. It's the comparison of before and after mods that is important and not the peak numbers you might see on a one time graph.

So the work you've done is good news for everyone else to be able to see the results. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

Black Max question for ya.

My base dyno readings(on a Dynojet) were 240.67hp and 404.28tq. If you say the Mustang is reading less, why am I reading less in my torque range? http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

You are right, I should have qualified that 8-10% factor for non-turbo applications. The difference will typically be less for super charged applications and a little hard to predict for turbo applications. I was falling back on my car mode instead of my truck mode thinking. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif Generally speaking though, the torque numbers tend to be pretty close from what I've seen.

Turbo applications can underperform on the dynojet if the person doing the run is not familar with the tricks to try and get the turbo up on boost. Before the dynojet guys get concerned, the "tricks" I'm referring to are simply the steps you need to take to get the full power pull out of an turbo application on a Dynoject. These are not the "tricks" that some people might use to exagerate the actual performance of an application.

A good example might be that some guys like to use the brakes to generate load prior to going to WOT for a dyno pull. This, provides a better graph of what you would try to accomplish at the track or during a pull, where you are trying to move as far into your power curve as you can without red lighting. There is a fine art there if you've ever watched video footage of the 6-9s turbo cars staging the lights at the track. Even guys using a two step will do the turbo cha cha to stage their cars. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

In your case, it does appear that those TQ numbers are quite a bit lower than I would expect to see on the Dynojet pull. Did you make more than one pull that day? Was the Dynojet run at a shop that has played with these trucks before? Were the both sets of pulls in normal or tow/haul mode? Something is odd between the two and I think it's more than just the truck unloading on the Dynojet pull.

Congrats on the great runs! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

IMHO http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif,...... in the Duramax "Turbo Diesel" world I have found the Mustangs to put down slightly higher HP and slightly lower torque numbers than a Superflow, using the exact same testing sequence.

As for the Dyno Jets..........they do a great job testing anything you don't want loaded down. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Looks like the Powerpup 155hp and the 6-Gun with speedloader dyno very close.

Powerpup +142hp +325tq

6-Gun +134hp +319tq (non-corrected)

6-Gun +149hp +351tq (corrected)

they look to be very close, probally the same tune, the 155 gives a bit of smoke off the start and looks to be a great stackhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif, i bet the same for the six gun
