Who has ran this tune yet, and how do you like it?

I have wondered this myself. I personally don't have the level 5 programmer, just the level 4 version. I will say that I've found that the switching between levels thing is pretty useless for me, as the truck seems to get good mileage with the level 4 tune and if I don't need the extra power, I just stay out of the throttle. I find the throttle response and overall driveability of level 4 to be better than the other tunes, so again I wonder why the others are needed (when not towing of course)?

Does anyone else just leave it in level 4 and drive it? I'm assuming that part throttle driving in level 4 can't be any worse on the motor and trans than full throttle driving in the lower levels correct?

I leave it in level 4 unless I tow, which I put to level 1.

I have mine on level 3 (120hp) and I'm gettin 16.4 city. Haven't driven far enough on the frwy yet to get a calc on the "cruisin" type of mileage. That's a 1.4 mpg increase from stock w/o the PPE tuner.

I think level 5 is a stock tranny popper.

definitely a stock tranny popper, p.s I tow a 7 thousand pound taq axle trailer in level 4 up and down our toll roads in the OC and i never see egt above 1320 and thats in cruize control right at 60, it will creep up at 1320 or so then I down shift with tiptronik and the egt's fall to 1240 or so and flatline sooooo, and I to have level 5, ran it with my stock gearbox a few times and you can tell its just strain city on it, I cant remember if my tranny has always had a slight whine to it or humm but it does now sooooooo maybe runnning it was not to good of an idea, but it was a sig boost as far as sotp feel goes when i went up to 5, fun fun

I ran mine on level 2 the first couple of weeks and liked it. I decided to swap it to 4 last week and just keep my foot out of it. I did turn it back down to 1 when towing last weekend. I'm going to buy a built 6 speed to keep in the garage, then upgrade my PPE.

So what did you think of level 4..? and did you ever try 3..?

I talked to Dan at PPE and he said for $300.00 they can load the level 5 tune for us with the 4 tune programmer. I plan on going to PPE tomorrow to get it installed. Next it will be a serious tranny upgrade.........lol........horsepower is fun........can't wait to dyno the thing.

Guys, I know this has been debated over and over, but you on this thread seem to have first hand experience. Are you guys running stock trannies? How much of an increase over stock ('08 LMM) would you feel safe running on the stock tranny? Also, am debating on Edge Juice vs. PPE Excelerator. Obviously, PPE has bigger gains, but I DO NOT want to do anything to this tranny (as of right now) so what's safe??? Should I stick with the Edge since it's maxed out at I think 90hp, or get the PPE? Is the 160hp level too much for the stock Allison? Sorry so many questions but first hand experience is priceless. Thanks.

The tuners have like a 90hp setting and one lower than that. Take it from me, I have had 4 tuners and should have gotten the PPE first

I run 120hp, and yes I drive Easy, and yes it will limp the stock tranny, at least on my LB7, the 6 speed alli's can take a bit more, someone in the know would have to tell ya just how much. Also, you might wanna fill out your sig so folks know which truck ya got, they can help better knowing the truck, and any mods..:D

what does the highest level add to the lmm

I'll have to say that my 6-speed has lasted a lot longet than I thought it would. It's had at least 120 hp on it from 400 miles and the torque converter is just now showing signs of damage, Consider though I run mine within an inch of it's life constantly-for 28,000 miles now

I have been running mine on level 4 (225) dor about 5k miles with no problems. I do switch to level 2 when I tow though. The PPE tuner is amazing, and I strongly recomend it. I know I will be upgrading to the PPE hot plus 2 as soon as they come out. I also strongly recomend doing a turbo back exhaust with PPE intake mod. They both made a huge difference.

Stock tranny on the safe side is good for 75 rwhp, I have ran a ppe programmer on a truck on level 4 driving the shit out of it for 8000 miles no problems, question is how long, Mike at Inglewood said you might see a year or so out of the TCC if you drive it over that 75-100HP mark, its all a guessing game still at this point I think.

Has anyone took there air filter apart and cut out the fan looking thing? I got a memo from PPE and told me to do this if running on Level 4.

I did the PPE airbox mod. Didn't seem to make much difference power wise so who knows. I figured if they said it was a good idea, what could it hurt?

didn't cost or hurt a thing so why not ?
