: How stupid am I
BRUCE 11-12-2004, 07:10 PM Now you have to understand I'm pretty mechanical, but I am doing something stupid. Seems like I can't train myself to wait for glow plugs to go out. God I'm never in a hurry (retired) but wanted to know what am I hurting? Bet you its injectors!!! Going to put note on steering wheel to stop this habit. I know this is dumb beyond belief but when you get old you lose a lot of brain cells. Thanks for any feed back.
Mackin 11-12-2004, 07:17 PM Nothing it's a aid in cold start. Not knowing your local but I bet in the USA it hasn't gotten that cold yet.
The Glowplugs prewarm the combustion chamber for faster starts.

Idle_Chatter 11-14-2004, 05:07 PM Yep! I've been "conditioned" by owning two diesels now and found myself sitting in a rental car with the key in the start position and waiting to crank!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif
john@dps 11-14-2004, 05:56 PM Idle_Chatter, nice to know I'm not alone. Maybe we can start a club. I've lost track how many times my wife has asked what we are waiting for when I'm in her car.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif John

Max Owner 11-14-2004, 09:23 PM I get into the wife's mobile and curse. She says "What?" I
reply the damn thing don't have glow plugs. She askes what are
glow plugs? I say the light on the dash for starting. She
goes "oh"
Heavy sigh.
arguy 11-14-2004, 09:51 PM Boy am I glad it's not just me. But I keep looking for the light and wondering why it doesn't turn on. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

a bear 11-14-2004, 10:01 PM She drives her's and I drive the DMax. If I let her drive the truck it will be a dead giveaway when she mashes the go pedal. Every time she gets in there those eyes go to roaming looking for new mods. Then comes the questions.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley15.gif Edited by: a bear
BUCKSHOTjr 11-14-2004, 10:21 PM I have been wondering where that light was in my wifes Tahoehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif

sprintmod1 11-15-2004, 02:02 PM Me too. Get in wife's car and wait for the light to go out.
Better yet, she now gets in her own car and waits for the light to go out before starting. Asked her yesterday morning what's she waiting for??http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
chuntag95 11-15-2004, 02:52 PM Same here.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif I have threatened to get her a diesel so I don't have to feel so dumb waiting for all of the lights to go out that won't because it's a gasser. I have to remind her about the glow plugs though. She remembers about 50% of the time, it's the winter she forgets, not the summer. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
ratlover 11-15-2004, 04:28 PM Guilty of that, at least i aint the only one. Waiting for the WTS light in a gasser is one thing but how many of you have tried to start a gasser when its running? Grind Whoops! glad its a company car.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif Damn things need to have a bit of noise to emhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif A diesel with no muffler lets you know she's alivehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley16.gif Them gutless ciereas have all the rumble of a go carthttp://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley21.gifEdited by: ratlover
