I have a 04 lly with the Allison, it had a 1st and 2nd gear growl so i took it to the dealership. 2 weeks later they get to my truck and tell me i need a new tranny, and it would cost me 3500(CAD) and they would cover the other half. My truck has 65xxx kms and 3 mths out of warrenty, this does not seem fair, i paid it just cause i need my truck back, but i am wondering if there is anything else i can do like write a letter or something?? When you pay 65xxx for a truck and use it to tow basically nothing ( 2 place snowmobile trailer) you don't expect this sort of thing to happen!! any advice??

Why do you need a new trans? What did they say was broke?

For a little bit more cash you could have had a built trans between the frame rails......

they didnt say what was broken, but i am guessing planetary gear set??

1. How much power are you running through the transmission
2. Do you plan for more HP?
3. You will not 'recoup' $$$ on a transmission. It's a consumable. Spend a little $$$ to make it what it should be. The old saying applies pay now or pay later.


I haven't seen more than 2 Allison's die with stock HP and low mileage. What modifications have you done ot the vehicle?

Oh, what codes were thrown in the transmission? Should be a P0700 plus another code or 2. We need that information. At this point if you don't know for sure what is wrong with the transmission it might be best to get a quote on a new Aftermarket (Suncoast ATS DTT) Allison transmission complete, assembled with Torque convertor that you can drop in and send in your old transmission for core charge. That will probably be the best solution in the long term $$$ wise.
