Last night installed my new lift pump. Unfortunately, didn't think far enough ahead to realize that the supply line would be siphoning fuel from the tank when I disconnected the lines. You gotta' love the feeling of diesel fuel running down your arms into your shirt sleeves. I want to be prepared for the next go round. What should I have done to prevent the hazardous chemical spill?

If you happen to have a gasoline non-vented cap, it wolud have held pressure and only a trickle would have run out.

when i changed mine not much rain out. does this mean i need a different filler cap? i know we have talked about fuel tank pressure before but never came up with a clear answer.

I would say the 'leak test' is hardly a good judge of what shape your filler cap is in, has more to do with how much fuel you have in the tank.
