Does anybody out there know how to eliminate the headlights coming on at start-up on a 2002 (Old Style)
3500 HD Diesel 6.5. I would like the lights to come on, but only when the truck is put into gear (The truck is auto)
Thanks in advance

Don

With a little research and looking you should be able to find either the power wire that powers the lights with key on or the fuse the does this. This would allow you to control what powers up the Driving lights. You might also be able to do something with the switch on the E-brake too. Might just take some trial and error sort of thing. Please let everyone know if you figure any thing out.

put the parking break on before you start it and dont forget to let it out when you put it into gear. the lights go off with the parking break engaged.

I wonder if you could toggle the wire of the Pbrake switch to cut the light out when you start.

My dad's light's came on all the time on his '96 but once he disabled the alarm because of an ign. short, they only come on when turned on.Edited by: quantum mechanic

I just went out and gave that a try. It did not work...I think because my truck does not have the day-time running light sensor on the dash????? Just a reminder...This truck is the old body style 1- ton.
Any other ideas??????

Yeaaper you can but to make it work just when put in gear that might be tricky.

Old style like the 1st gen of round nose or the really older square nose ones. Those didn't have DRL and you had to turn the lights on with the switch or have the automatic system on the truck. So I guess I confused which you have or what you want.

The truck is a 2002 3500 HD w/ a 6.5 diesel. It is the a commercial style truck Square Body Style not the rounder style front end that was introduced in the tail end of 99. Hope that helps a little http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
